When I have more time I will look at those links. IF that is true it is certainly telling. And damning. I have always believed that those in power secretly despise the constitution. I would hate to see a President of the nation express those sentiments. A sad day for this country if true.
I'm having a hard time confirming or debunking this often cited quote by the president and it is very hard to find authoritative proof that he is likely to have said this. However, a man's actions sometimes speak louder than his words and his actions have led me to believe he would sooner wipe his arse with the Constitution than read it and adhere to it (like he has sworn to do twice now)
I too have not had time yet to determine if what they claim is true or not, but I do believe the Pres. Bush does not care about the Constitution, of course unless his rights were being infringed upon directly, beings how he enacted the Patriot Act and then had it renewed.
Heard a lot about standing ovations and this brought to mind a line in one of my favorite movies. "So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause...."
Don't know if he really said it...... but he believes it. To me he is the most un-American president we've ever had If this country survives another 200 years (I doubt it will, North American Union), I believe the Bush admin will be seen by history as a horrible turning point, kinda like McCarthyism. But I believe that Pres Clinton and the possible future pres Clinton will share a great deal of that shame as well as Reagan. I have unfortunately lost all hope for our future. Those in power are ruining us, and the only ones able to replace them would do the same. I feel lost.
I just can't fathom these people who get so animated over the Dems vs Reps. debate. Their actions are no different. If you believe the hype then our second amendment rights are protected under a Republican Pres. and threatened under a Dem one. Right? I used to have all the anti-gun laws that George Bush Sr. signed into law during his presidency. I will have to dig it out, but it was more laws than ANY previous president. no matter their party. Remember the big deal the press made of him turning in his lifetime membership to the NRA? What they didn't tell you was that he had only purchased it the year before. It was all political grandstanding. I see this "good cop, bad cop" being played out and shake my head at the people who take it so seriously. I have no faith in either party. The elitists who run them are so out of touch with mainstream America that they have no clue what "We the People" want anymore. Nor do they care. My Mother has been in state politics for over 20 years. She has worked with the last several Governors of our State and met two Presidents. She was offered and turned down several political appointments. One to be an envoy to Russia. A few years ago she was asked to run for State Senator . She was backed by the bankers and the power brokors of the party and was a shoe in to win. After some thought and personal debate she turned them down. She told me that she had been around politics long enough to know that the only way you could ever get anything done was to compromise your morals. She decided that her convictions were more important to her and she would not compromise them. The moral is this; Morals and politics are mutually exclusive. There is no such thing as a moral politician. They may start out that way, but they soon learn that to be effective you have to compromise. And then they become addicted to the power and their entire purpose becomes maintaining that "High". That is why the founding fathers were of such a different calibur. They served to represent the people. They were citizen politicians who served their time, then returned home. We will never have honest Government as long as we allow career politicians, no matter what party they represent.
The above reminds me of a TV show I saw and the truth it told, I think it was 'West wing' or some such. A polititian in power was sitting in an office talking to an aquantiance who was an honest man with principals and concern for our country. The aquantance asked the polititian how he and peoiple like him kept getting put in office, the response was simply 'because people like you wont run. I think there is a lot of truth to it. Basicly come election times we get to choose between raw sewage and slightly treated raw sewage because politics has become so dispickable that even if they have a chance to do so and may even be sucessful no decent honest person wants anything to do with it.
Therein lays the rub. Jefferson and his cronies thought that the honest folks would take a turn at the wheel to keep things on the up and up. It hasn't worked out that way.
I may be wrong, though I don't think that it is that good guys won't run. I think it is because people are sheep. If you have good guys that would run and they do, what this country needs is a wakeup call. In order for that to happen tough decisions and actions need to take place. So you get a candidate that talks about the tough decisions and things that are needed and you get all the sheep that get scared because it might unsettle their nerves and therefore they label him a kook, survivalist, crackpot, redneck or what have you and then they vote for the other guy. I was once told 'If you like me, I'm not doing my job'. That was told to me by a superviser when I asked why so many of the employees didn't like him. It turns out that they were slackers and weren't pulling their weight and when he commenced to get on them about it, they didn't like him anymore. They only liked the 'calm, let you do what you want' type boss. I agree that there has to be a hatchet man in place. In order to run smoothly, you have to do what needs to be done and if you don't, then bring out the hatchet man. It is one thing to be buddies with the boss and go fishing together on Saturdays though when you hit the office, things better work right. That to me is why we don't have good leadership. The good guys are tough and the sheep are lazy and scared.
This attitude has turned GB into a lame-duck president and I still don't believe he understands that we will put up with democrats before we will allow a president to piss on the tree of freedom.
