after being here 28 years i finally got a moose. 42" rack, 4 brow tines, est 1200lbs, 250yds. i called him scrapping a piece of calf hip bone on the willows. after 8 days of not seeing a moose i finally saw one. the other two guys saw them everyday,,,, this is the only one i saw. anther guy in camp got a 2 point on day 3. after he came in to 300yds i counted brow tines like 10 times,, 3, no 4,3? 4, fuck it im shooting him. he was facing me and finally turned so i shot. when i reset i could see he was hit and he started to run into the bush. no,no,no, all i could see was his ass and head, i put one right below his ear. dead right there. i drove the truck right too him. i miss judge grouse all the time, oh he ran right in here,,,, then he flys off 50' ahead. i did that with this guy too. after the second shot i walked up about 150 yds and saw a tiny drop of blood and tracks that headed to the woods. for 20 minutes i absolutely shit my self. no blood, no tracks,wtf? where is he? we called the third guy in and i was 100yds short. 2 of his feet were still on the trail. he never got a step after the second shot. dropped right there. fuck me to tears. we prayed over him and i thanked god for this beautiful beast and a quick clean kill. then the work starts. i could have never done it without help. i gimped up half a hour into butchering and it hurt just to spray the citric acid on the massive quarters coming off. i couldn't pick up a hind quarter, took 2 of us to lift it in the truck. the back-strap was 5' long. works not done. he will hang a couple weeks then il bone out steaks, roasts, burger and stew. fuck food stamps. im glad i cant get them.
