The John Ross classic in hardcover (the only version ever printed) in very good/excellent condition. Pages bright. Smoke free home. No tears, marks, dings, stains or yellowing. Binding is perfect. Minor shelf wear, primarily on dust jacket (but for this I'd grade it like new).

The cheapest copy on Amazon is going for $99.00, in worn and stained condition. The cheapest one in very good condition is going for $133.00.

    Unintended Consequences on Amazon

More relevant today than when it was published in 1996. Merry Christmas to a lucky Monkey for $85.00 including postage. (If not taken here, this goes on Amazon for $125.00.)

Oh my God, really!? I'm glad I got it when I did! All this Lights Out talk lately, UC was right there with it in my early education.

Reply sent, and I'll call you later when I'm in range. Thanks!

And yeah, it's a great read, and it was a big part of my early education as well. It's fiction, but only barely in many ways. The book is full of facts including the entire sordid history of gun control and the ATF, all of which is factual. As to the fictional part - even though Henry was far better equipped than most of us, it's still very useful for mindset, given what's coming.

I've been going through boxes of books and was stunned to discover that I own three copies, all in great condition. (I'm used to finding two of a book I really liked now and then, but three? I used to sell a few books on my gun show tables, so I guess that's how it happened. Over the years, I must have told ten or fifteen friends that I only had one copy, which definitely wasn't for sale!)

I can remember giving 12-15 copies away to friends back in the day. They were first editions and quite a few were signed by Ross at KCR. Oh well, I still have a copy left.

    Well congrats tacmotusn!

I've read here on SM and elsewhere that a softcover edition was due out at any moment, but so far - zip. I really hope Ross reissues the book. Is there some legal hold up? He could put it up as an e-book and do well.

I'm kicking myself - I started to buy it awhile back when it was available and then ... didn't. Doh!

BTW: eBay is offering the book - "buy it now" from $130 to right at $300!

Ross was also supposed to publish the follow up "Detour" in late '05- I wouldn't hold my breath. He's a great guy but I think the divorce and stroke broke him a bit.

I have given a few copies away to friends also but mostly, I just loaned them a copy and never got it back. These were all copies bought from John and signed up at the creek too. Ed Yenni and Latham Smith are two that didn't return my signed copies and I hope they read this and feel guilty as hell.

I have one of the Melbo signed gift copies. I read the book straight though and it is fun. My wife threw away the sleeve when the book went onto the family bookshelf last spring.

Now, if I could only get my copy of Patriots back that i loaned to someone. It is making the rounds though a bunch of people in MI right now.

I read it sometime along the way, was NOT a hard copy. Somehow, I managed to find it on line, and for the life of me, I can't remember how. But if I can find a copy for the "right" price, it goes into the bookcase.

I have a thing for holding a book in my hands and turning the pages, curled up in front of the fireplace or out in the lawn chair with the dog sunning herself (as the weather dictates). I like my books ... [drooling]

I read somewhere that using a device like a kindle or reading off the computer monitor lowers your reading comprehension ... danged if I can remember how much, though ... must have seen it on the computer ...
