windows monkeys should uninstall apple QuickTime immediately

    All versions of quicktime should be unistalled not just version 7.

    Be sure to save your quicktime key and install files if you bought the program. Archive them to backup media and store them away from your computer

    That is so weird that you posted this. My computer slowed to a crawl last night and then I got flashed to up-date my quicktime. I ignored it but wondered. Thanks for looking out for our on-line safety @sec_monkey

    As @sec_monkey said, probably should be uninstalled ASAP.

    If anyone whines "But I have all my movies in MOV format (why?) then download a free video converter.

    One such converter is Any Video Converter Free 5.9.3 but when you install it, do the "custom" Install. Tell the installer to leave out the extra software "OpenCandy".
    Many "free" programs come with other programs that you may not want -- it's how they make their money these days.

    I have no association with "Any Video Converter Free". And if you don't like that one there are a dozen others out there to convert your Quicktime MOV files.

    I am seriously considering re-instituting the air gap. Have a sacrificial PC on the web, say a Linux box maybe, who's purpose in life is just to browse, email, and download stuff that will be copied by flash drive to the offline PC that contains anything important.

    On my Windows laptop I use alshow and vlc to watch movies. Images I use irfanview. I don't like the Microsoft things for the most part.

    I wonder if it's the US government retaliating against apple for not unlocking that phone.
    It was a department of the DHS recommending the uninstall.

    Apple was the one that dropped support for QuickTime. It is a dead product.

    Adobe Flash and Oracle Java should also be uninstalled**.

    **Java remains somewhat useful, very widely incorporated in various sites. Get NoScript and default to no permissions unless you OK it. Then, uv cuss, don't allow unless you asked for it. Flash is useless, near as I can tell, it is well overage.

    I won't be uninstalling Java.
    Kind of hard to develop for android and other devices without it. Well, maybe it's just me.
