School officials in Hudson, Wisconsin, issued an apology after parents responded angrily to a video showing celebrities pledging to serve Barack Obamain a manner one parent said was reminiscent of Nazi Germany, The Blaze reported Sunday. "The ‘I Pledge' video we viewed yesterday included some messages about serving President Barack Obama. We apologize for any part of the video that was offensive to students, their families and staff," Middle School Principal Dan Koch said in a statement. According to The Blaze, the video was produced by Oprah Winfrey’s production company after Obama took office in 2009 and features celebrities pledging support for the president. “I pledge to be of service to Barack Obama,” Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis said while kissing his biceps. “I pledge to be a servant to our president," added actress Demi Moore. The school unearthed the video and decided to use it for their "Peace One Day" event last week, angering parents who were in attendance. The event was started by filmmaker Jeremy Gilley in 1999 as “an annual day of global unity, a day of intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known.” But the 2013 event felt more like a propaganda event fitting for mid-20th century dictatorships. “It looks a little 1940s Germany,” one person said. “It doesn’t seem right," added another person. The district thought the video could be used to show students how to make a difference in the community, but backtracked after parents made their objections known. “Unfortunately, the video also had a political slant. The district is non-partisan and does not endorse the political messages found in this video. This video will not be used in the district again,” the district said. "We respect the Office of the President of the United States but like all of our other elected officials, that office serves each of us as well. I sincerely hope that as participants in Wednesday's event what you took away from the experience was to choose to make a difference in your world," Koch added.
Awwww. Ain't it cute? Let's brainwash, er...indoctrinate, no... um, educate little Johnny while he's good and impressionable. "Education" takes hold best when they're young, right? Right?
School Board needs to examine, closely, the Admins, that decided this was a Good Idea....... and if the School Board approved it, then a change in Board Members is in order.....
Hence why parents need to ask their children everyday what they learned in school! I am fortunate I live in one of the reddest of red states but I still keep track of what my children are being taught. On a side note I do know that my son is saying the Pledge of Allegiance everyday at school. He said it as a prayer over his sisters dead fish. It was hard trying to explain to him that, that is not a prayer.
It just means I have less BS to worry about..... If a school district goes off the reservation here the consequences are quick .
In my general area yes. Where I live wearing an NRA shirt or something patriotic wont get you suspended , praying in class is allowed ( It is not led by the school district ). I quiz my kids everyday to make sure they are being taught properly. If anything even sounds out of place I would be at the school the next day. I live in Oklahoma , trust me even most of the teachers here are very conservative.
Have a teacher that I sit on a porch and drink a cool one with and talk of how things are and may become. He is growing concerned with how things are changing in the schools and in the students. Best that can be done is to continue to talk to the younger ones and tell them the truth..
I pledge to be a slave to the wealthy corporations... Don't people realize that they all have a god given right to more?! You are all in charge of Obama. He is OUR public servant and he has declared us all as enemy combatants and suspended our 4th amendment indefinitely. High treason. This is the point when the people of America have to start choosing whether they are going to be slaves or fight for freedom. Does anyone remember what freedom is anymore?
We have the same concerns, my kids are very little and one starts school next year. Thankfully we know a number of teachers in the area and a couple are good friends of my wife. I've talked to a few of them by starting with real general conversation, then when I get a feel for someone I'll dig a little deeper. The one I know the best that teaches 2nd and 3rd grade at the school my son starts next year has been over many times with her family- her husband even goes to the gun club with me regularly (if we aren't shooting here or by them).
