Over the years I have read about people's mom or grandma keeping a jar that used bacon grease went into. Wouldn't this go rancid? Anyone have experience with this? I have thought of saving used cooking oil for a candle wick.

I keep a jar of bacon grease in the refrigerator. Other cooking oils gets soaked up in rushes and set aside, ideally in a bark tube, but usually a cardboard one, for months with less daylight.

My grandma,, and maw ,, used to have a jar of bacon grease on the stove ,,, and because that's what I grew up seeing ,, I used to keep a jar of bacon grease on the stove ,,, I'm still sucking air on this dirt pile,, so I guess it isn't detrimental,, but I can see HD's refrigerator method ,,,
It seems like back then ,, there was always some cooking going on ,, this was before fast food stuff was so prevalent,,,family's used to eat home cooked meals ,, so that jar full of bacon grease was used daily ,, it wasn't just left unused on the stove ,, it was used at least twice daily ,, breakfast,, and supper ,,, meaning ,, it didn't just sit there on the stove and go bad ,, it was being heated ,, used ,, and added to on a pretty regular basis ,,,, that's just my past experience on it.

Momma's secret ingredient wasn't love, but bacon grease. My Mother used to keep a metal container on the stove full of bacon grease, but now she keeps it in the refrigerator. However, her food is still great!
