It sounds like there has been some kind of ongoing beef between the people in that house and the church and or pastor. I'd be interested in it but some observations just on the footage and what was said. This guy was in public yelling a clear threat to that pastors family. Since there has been tension in the past that threat is in my opinion credible and they are in very close proximity to each other on a regular basis. While the threats were being made the pastor ran over to confront this man. Once he reaches the man holding the cell phone obviously as some sort of a security blanket while continuing to yell at the pastor. You can see the pastor initially holding up his left arm with an extended palm. This is non threatening body language and an attempt to calm the situation down. His right hand is down visible by his side and not clenched into a fist. The pastors body is bladed off with his left foot leading not in a fighting stance. Further video footage shows the pastor seems to be predominately right handed. Again showing constraint through body language. The man making the threats closes in and strikes the pastor twice in the facial area. With both his right and left hands with a closed fist. After that, the pastor initiates and attacks this man. It is clearly justified defense against an attack that is ongoing. The attacker was not backing off and showed physical signs he was going to continue the attack. The pastor got the upper hand and the fight went to the ground. While on the ground the man was still resisting and trying to fight back. He made no attempts to cover his face, head or physical signs of giving up. If let up there is little doubt he would not continue to physically attack the pastor. I don't think the pastor went too far until he gave him a kick to the facial area. That of course is debatable because it was one kick and it was obvious it did not disable or knock the other man out rendering him defenseless. Once this man has had enough the pastor disengaged. The other man was able to easily get up and run away. It is my opinion (for what it is worth) that pastor should never have been arrested. If anything I believe the man shouting the threats should have been the one to get arrested. I think this case will either be thrown out or this pastor will win the criminal case. The family might go after the church civilly because they think they have deep pockets or their insurance does. I think any of us being reasonable men would react similarly should our families be threatened. Not only a credible threat but such an evil threat as to sexually assault innocents and then take their lives when you are not around. Then threatening you with what are you going to do about it? In my mind this person got what he deserved. A justified public beating distributed by a pastor that has had enough.
Mr. Sowel is a fount of knowledge and good common sense. I wish We The People would listen to him. Our nation would be in so much better shape than it is.
