I am wanting to try one of the 7.62x39 uppers on an AR and was wondering if anyone has tried them. I understand that reliable magazines are hard to find but that they are out there. This might be an easy answer to rising ammo costs.

I was reading about a beta-C mag for them; don't know how they work either.

Beta C's are cool, but I would stay away from them for anything other than having fun. They tend to jam when dirty and I have had problems with reliable functioning with the one I have.
As for the upper, my buddy had one so that he could go deer hunting with his M4. He eventually sold his and never got another and I never asked why. Next time I see him, I will ask.
