Ok, I'm a history nut.... and a gun nut, but I've never really focused on the guns of the 20's and 30's, but now I'm interested.

Bonnie & Clyde, John Dillinger, Ma Barker and Pretty Boy Floyd, Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly. I'm hooked now, and I can't seem to find out a lot about the guns of the time, well some, but not enough.

So I'm wanting to know what guns were common in the period.

    I know:
    The Thompson smg of course

    Auto Pistols:
    1903 colt pocket (Bonnie Parker)
    Remington 51
    M1911 (and still today)

    Revolvers:
    Smith & Wesson M&P
    Colt Detective Special
    Colt Police Positive

    Pump Shotgun:
    Marlin Model 19
    Winchester Model 12

    Semi Auto Shotgun:
Remington Model 11 (my dad had one)

    Pump Rifle:
    Remington Model 10 pump Rifle

    Lever Rifle:
    Winchester 92 and 94 and 95

    Semi Auto Rifle:
    Remington Model 8

    Tell me some more....
Especially semi auto rifles, The Remington Model 8 was all I could find.

Here's a pic of the Dillinger Gang Weapons:

What are the semi's in the picture? Brownings? What model? They don't look like the Remington model 8.

True enough, the 1873 Colt Single Action Army. I believe Roosevelts favorite handgun, or at least it was in the Spanish American War.

I am surprised they didn't have a Winchester model 97 , I would think those would have been very popular in the 20's and 30's .

History channels' "history of the gun" spent an hour on Bonnie and clydes fondness for rthe "BAR".( 30-06, BROWNING AUTOMATC RIFLE.) IIRC , I think they were cut down in an FBI ambush of BAR's.

Correct, Fully Auto 1918 BAR's (30-06). That's a lotta firepower! Rifles in the above photo look like the civilian/sporting version of the BAR that's still made today, but I can't find reference to when browning started making those.
