    My Dad and his brother, were asked to remove a farmer's tree (true story) Nice big mature oak. They got paid to remove it, they found a buyer for the lumber, and they decided to take it down with the least hassle, and least damage to the wood, so no axes or saws! They dug under the roots and planted an explosive, to break the roots loose. and the tree would just roll over as it's supports were cut. Well, in theory anyways. The charge went off, and the tree shivered hard, then nothing for the longest time, then it finally started to lay over, but as it hit the ground, it shattered into tooth-picks! They didn't get a dime for the wood.
