We've got 24 varieties of canned 30-year MH food--ready for prompt, FREE shipping. And it's all on sale ONLY till Wed. night, 2/10.

Last August a sudden onslaught of customer orders fully depleted the stock of Mountain House canned food at the factory warehouses. Since then, it's been very difficult to find any MH food.

But now--most of the canned varieties are available again to Safecastle customers! All factory-fresh! Shipped direct from the factory and from our warehouses within one week.

How long will inventories last? Who knows? But right now the gettin' is good.

And you know us ... we love our blockbuster MH sales, so we're all-in with discounts on MH canned food of from 32% to 46%!

PLUS buyers club members receive $afecastle reward gift certificates for their qualifying MH purchases!

I have bought from @JC Refuge in the past. The service was great. Plus the shipping was super fast.

Yes, I am interested as looking to increase food storage. I will look into it tomorrow morning. Seems that you only sell by the case...which is okay but just 2 of us. - Rick

No catch, Rick. This MH food is as fresh as it gets--straight from the factory (and all the food at the factory has been produced with the last two months due to the situation that depleted all inventories late last year as mentioned in the first post here).

It's how we roll all the time at Safecastle.

    JC Refuge,

Great! One has to purchase by the case? Would be nice if I could mix and match a case, then you could sell a case and I could get variety (hint-hint!) :):) As I only got the two of us a case of stroganoff last a loooong time - variety is the spice of life. :):) - Rick

We only sell by the full case at this time.

FYI, based on the minimum recommended calories per day per person (2000 cals per day), and you have a variety of MH food on hand ... a quick way to figure how much food you have is one case (six #10 cans per case) per person per week. Obviously, yes--you want to have a variety of food on hand to rotate thru. (You can have several different cans open at a time.)

    @JC Refuge,
"...one case (six #10 cans per case) per person per week."
Holy Smoke! Really? That does make one think...1 per person per week...that changes things. I guess I need to rethink our amounts. Thanks! - Rick

Is it just me, or does that seem high? That would be about nine pounds of food a day per person. Is that right?

Don't know how you came up with that number, Hanzo. The shipping weight of a case of MH food, on average, is about 11 pounds, give or take. That includes cans, cardboard, etc. Freeze dried food of course is very lightweight with all the water removed.

Regardless--what you want to look at is calorie count to get a quick understanding of whatever storage food you are putting away.

Caution--some sellers do misrepresent what you are buying with their food packages. Some will point at servings, which of course has no bearing on number of meals (search definition of a serving for a better look at that). I've seen sellers on ebay for instance sell a ton of MH food claiming their three cases of food will provide 12 months of sustenance.

With MH entrees, you can roughly figure two servings per meal per person to get you to where you want to be with calories, depending on the variety.

Lastly, just think about it from a cost standpoint. How much do you spend on groceries a week? Now take much of that same food and add in the cost of freeze drying it, etc. That process removes thew water, not the cost.

Personally I think it is high but they are now saying 3,000 calories per day. Military guys eat that. People think we will be doing extreme manual labor or carrying a 60 lbs pack like soldiers do everyday all day. IMO 2,000 is high but it is a good number to shoot for. Better to have more then less if SHTF.

If you are talking about the number of calories per day being high ... the average American presently eats much more than 2000 calories per day. Of course we do overeat in general. The 2000 calories per day level is minimum survival level for most folks as identified by the medical community.

And there is a wide range of variations involved in determining how many calories a person are required ... height, weight, age, activity level, gender, metabolism. But again--we are talking averages.

There are a million websites out there that talk about these things. Here is one: How Many Calories Does an Average Male Need Every Day?

Thanks @Motomom34 and @JC Refuge. Was thinking more about the weight than the calories, I suppose. Almost nine pounds of survival food to get a day's nutrition seems heavy and bulky. I guess I have always equated Mountain House with freeze dried.

Hanzo--I am very confused. I am not following where you are getting 9 pounds per day. And yes--Mountain House food is freeze dried.
