So four favorite knives of mine....
Some old...the one in the fringed and quill worked scabbard ...and the one with the antler handle...
"Old" as in 1890's or so...well the knives , not the scabbards.
    Some "new"....
They all get used today as hunting , camping and kitchen knives.
    All I hope you enjoy...:D

That one was a birthday gift from my wife...it was made by a gal named Hazel ...she owns "Sideros Designs"...

This knife is the one she calls a "Rat Tail Knife"...I am not sure what steel she uses...but it is a "Carbon" steel....
I do know that it holds an edge well and sharpens easy....
She usually has a few one hand to order...
Mine is 7 inches long with a 3 1/4 inch blade.
    Here is a closer picture...

Aptly named and crudely beautiful. She's also the first woman knifemaker I've heard of.

Grand dad used to do something similar out of old files for us kids, sharpened really well, held a good edge, but were a little brittle. That style of knife, rings made from horse shoe nails, arrow heads, hoe heads, etc, used to really impress us when we watched him do blacksmithing as 5 year olds and on up. So much knowledge that never got passed down in our family. Enjoyed the sharing of working knives. Thank you. We all love to look at the latest Buck folder, but carry a 75 year old USAF survival knife for my everyday use and 90 % of my knife use outside is with a 40 year old stanley box cutter. Putting siding on my house this summer, and nothing beats it for that. Guy that gave me the crooked knife blank uses that and an axe to build birch bark canoes.

I focused on the rat-tail knife also. It is a true art piece. It looks so sturdy. None of our knives are that nice. Normal store bought without history or true craftsmanship. We have Moras, Mossy Oaks and Spydercos. @AndyinEverson the knife with the antler handle is really nice also. You have a great collection.

    Thank you ....Motomom34
The Rat Tail knife is easy to carry ...its slim and rides well...also handles nicely when cleaning game or doing kitchen chores...
Give Hazel a shout ....she'll make you one too....
All of them like I said are users...even the old ones.

Thanks BT. I didn't think she was the only female knifemaker but that she was the first I'd heard about. I like knives almost as much as I like guns. :D

So above is another view of the antler handled knife...the cow horn handled knife and the bottom one in this picture is a Russel Green River knife ...
All three here date from the 1890's early 1900's...
The antler handed knife is a Christopher Johnson from Sheffield England
The cow horn handled knife is a Universal
    And the aforementioned Green River
