I got interested in the carbolic acid mentioned earlier, some research, it won't necessarily be available posts SHFT but still a good substance to keep in mind

Carbolic acid was first extracted from coal tar, but as of 2011, most is made from cumene, a component of crude petroleum oil. The compound has strong anti-microbial properties and one of its earliest uses was as an antiseptic. This was pioneered in 1867 by the British surgeon Joseph Lister, who used it in dilute solutions to sterilize wounds and surgical instruments, greatly improving the survival rates of patients undergoing surgery. It was also used in “coal tar soap” until the 1970s and is still used in various antiseptic and pharmaceutical products.

Among the biggest carbolic acid uses today is the production of plastics. Bakelite, one of the earliest plastics, was first made from phenol and formaldehyde in 1907. Carbolic acid is now used in the synthesis of many plastics, including polycarbonates, epoxy resins and nylon. Other uses include the manufacture of dyes, disinfectants and antiseptics.

Although many compounds that are essential or beneficial to life are based on phenol groups, carbolic acid itself is toxic and corrosive. It is volatile and is easily absorbed through the skin, so inhalation and skin contact as well as ingestion are possible routes of exposure. The vapor irritates the respiratory tract and high concentrations can cause lung damage.

Skin contact results in white discoloration followed by burns that can be severe — these may not be painful initially, due to the compound’s anesthetic effects. Symptoms of carbolic acid poisoning include nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, as well as reduced, dark-coloured urine and thirst. Other symptoms include sweating, rapid pulse, convulsions and coma.

How to Make Magnesium Bicarbonate Water | Natural Health by Karen

Magnesium dissolved in water (ionized) is considerably more bioavailable than is magnesium in solid tablets or capsules. About 50% of the magnesium contained in magnesium/bicarbonate water is absorbed. This is 12 times better than the absorption rate for magnesium oxide. So drinking 1 liter of magnesium/bicarbonate water per day would correspond to taking five 500 mg magnesium oxide tablets daily.

It can be challenging to get liquid forms of magnesium into the body, and the liquid forms are much better adopted. You can make one form of liquid magnesium by adding 4 1/2 parts apple cider vinegar to one part milk of magnesia. This might be the best form for people with blood sugar issues because 2-4 TBSP of vinegar before meals helps reduce blood sugar spikes, so you get a double benefit. However not everyone will drink vinegar, even in water.

This homemade magnesium/bicarbonate water, in its composition, is very close to brands like Noah’s California Spring Water or Unique Water. The recipe is based on the reaction of magnesium hydroxide (in milk of magnesia) with plain carbonated water according to the formula Mg(OH)2 + 2CO2 —> Mg(HCO3)2, thanks to our friends at Wallerwater.

Plain Milk of Magnesia (MoM) should be used in the recipe. The “active” ingredient should only be magnesium hydroxide [Mg (OH)2], 400 mg per teaspoon (5 ml), and the “inactive” ingredient should only be purified water. 41.7% by weight of magnesium hydroxide is magnesium (Mg), so 5 ml of MoM has 167 mg of Mg, and 1 tablespoon has 500 mg of Mg (1 tablespoon = 15 ml).

To prepare the water follow these steps:

    1. Chill a 1-liter bottle of unflavored seltzer, which is fully carbonated water. The seltzer should only contain water and carbon dioxide (CO2). Club soda is carbonated water with a small amount of added sodium and is also suitable.

    2. Shake the bottle of Milk of Magnesia well, then measure out 3 tablespoons (45 ml) and have it ready. The plastic measuring cup that comes with the MoM is accurate and ideal for the purpose.

    3. Remove the bottle of unflavored seltzer from the refrigerator without agitating it. Open it slowly and carefully to minimize the loss of CO2. As soon as the initial fizzing settles down, slowly add the pre-measured MoM. Promptly replace the cap on the water bottle and shake it vigorously for 30 seconds or so, making the liquid cloudy.

After ½ hour or so the liquid will have cleared, and any un-dissolved magnesium hydroxide will have settled to the bottom of the bottle. Again shake the bottle vigorously for 30 seconds or so, making the liquid cloudy again. When the liquid again clears all of the magnesium hydroxide in the MoM should have reacted with all of the CO2 to become dissolved (ionized) magnesium and bicarbonate.

If a small amount of un-dissolved magnesium hydroxide still remains in the bottom of the bottle as a sediment it may be ignored.

This 1 liter of concentrated magnesium bicarbonate water will have approximately 1500 mg of magnesium and approximately 7500 mg of bicarbonate. It should be kept in the refrigerator. You may note that the sides of the bottle “cave in” when the liquid clears. This is a sign that the reaction is complete.

To make 4 liters of magnesium bicarbonate drinking water with approximately 125 mg of magnesium and approximately 625 mg of bicarbonate per liter and a pH of approximately 8+ measure and transfer 1/3 liter of the concentrate (333 ml) into a 4-liter container. Fill the container with 3 2/3 liters of plain or purified water, as desired.

Magnesium dissolved in water (ionized) is considerably more bioavailable than is magnesium in pill form. While this is not as concentrated as colloidal magnesium, it is considerably easier on the tastebuds. So while I suggest loading with colloidal magnesium, this is good for maintenance.

    Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate
For how to use Epsom Salt

Milk of Magnesia is magnesium hydroxide

    9 Types of Magnesium
    1. Magnesium Amino Acid Chelate
A magnesium amino acid chelate is magnesium connected to an amino acid. This could be a glycine, aspartic acid (aspartate) or arginine (arginate), or another amino acid. Magnesium aspartate and arginate are considered to be the best.

    2. Magnesium Oxide
Magnesium oxide is therapeutically used as a laxative and to provide relief for acid reflux. Because this form of magnesium has poor bioavailability (only 4%), magnesium oxide supplements may contain up to 60% more magnesium than other supplements so that enough can enter the bloodstream and provide the intended effect.[2]

    3. Magnesium Citrate
Derived from the magnesium salt of citric acid, magnesium citrate is highly soluble and has higher bioavailability than magnesium oxide.[3] Magnesium citrate is commonly used to induce bowel movements but has also been studied for kidney stone prevention.

    4. Magnesium Orotate
Magnesium orotate, also called magnesium orotate dihydrate, is the most effective form of magnesium supplement and extremely helpful for addressing deficiencies.[4] Magnesium orotate is a compound that includes both magnesium and orotic acid. Extensive scientific research by Dr. Hans A. Nieper, M.D. shows orotates can penetrate cell membranes, enabling the effective delivery of the magnesium ion to the innermost layers of the cellular mitochondria and nucleus.[5] This is particularly important in heart and nerve cells, which are unable to renew or regenerate when damaged, and hence effective delivery of magnesium is important to the recovery of these tissues.[6] Magnesium orotate has many properties that support your health while providing one of the most readily absorbable forms of magnesium.

    5. Magnesium Chloride
Magnesium chloride has a higher bioavailability than magnesium oxide and magnesium citrate, and a bioavailability equivalent to magnesium lactate.[2] The magnesium concentration in magnesium chloride supplements is low, around 12%, to balance its higher bioavailability. A supersaturated magnesium chloride oil can be applied to the skin for sore muscles and has been recommended by some as a supplement for those who experience an undesired laxative effect from pills.[7]

    6. Magnesium Lactate
This type of magnesium shows higher levels of bioavailability than magnesium oxide. Magnesium lactate is a mineral supplement commonly used to manage digestive issues. Magnesium lactate should be avoided by those with kidney disease or kidney-related problems.

    7. Magnesium Sulfate
Magnesium sulfate is a form of magnesium with an elemental concentration of 10% and lower levels of bioavailability. It contains magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen and is often sold as Epsom Salt, which can be added to baths to relieve sore muscles. Magnesium sulfate has been found to have pain-killing properties during spinal anesthesia, but may cause headaches during the procedure.[8]

    8. Magnesium Carbonate
Also called magnesite, magnesium carbonate is used as a remedy for heartburn and upset stomach. Its bioavailability is about 30% when taken internally. Magnesium carbonate has a strong laxative effect when taken in high amounts. It is also commonly used as chalk used as a drying agent by pitchers, gymnasts, rock climbers, and weightlifters.

    9. Magnesium Glycinate, Malate, & Taurates
These are chelated forms of magnesium which are sold with lower concentrations of magnesium because it is in a highly bioavailable form. These three types of magnesium have a variety of uses.

People used to stink and if SHTF, people will smell. That is a fact. In the old times, when the fancy ladies would go to church, they would wear or hold rose petal beads to help cover the stench from others or themselves. My Aunt and I made rose petal beads a few years ago. They are easy to make and they do have a slight rose scent.
Make Scentsational Rose Beads - DIY - MOTHER EARTH NEWS

Another oldie is rose water. Currently roses are blooming so it is a great time to collect roses. It doesn't have a long shelf life but if you dry petals you can make rose water throughout the year. Here is a link to two recipes. I have never put witch hazel in mine. Just petals and water works fine IMO.

Don’t you love when something is so easy that it almost doesn’t need instructions?

You might already have the ingredients on hand. You’ll just need bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar and water.

    Ingredients
    Instructions
    1. Mix all of the ingredients in a glass bowl (do not use metal!) with a wooden or non-metal spoon until about the consistency of sour cream.
    2. Spread in an even layer over the armpits and allow to sit for 5-20 minutes. I suggest starting slowly and working up to a longer period of time once you see how your body adjust. If it hurts at all, remove immediately.
    3. This may cause some redness as it will increase blood-flow to the area, but it will go away quickly.
    4. Wash off in the shower or with a warm, wet washcloth.
    5. Repeat daily or as needed until under-arm odor goes away and natural deodorant is non-irritating.

There is a place just a little south and east of Hearny County (Burns Or, where the stand off was) called Borax lake, you can literally find piles of it all over the valley floor and even right along side the road. Up near French Glen, (where the famous round barn is) you can find huge piles of it as well as sulphur!
Further south, About an Hour north by west of Fallon Nv. Is also a good area for Borax, not as pure, but still really good!

Several years ago I worked for a man that always wore soft souled shoes. You could never hear him coming. However, body odor is not such a bad thing sometimes!!! We might not have heard him coming, but we could always smell him when he got close. I'm not trying to say he stunk, but we always knew it was him hiding there somewhere close...

Cinnamon is one such spice that prevents bad body odor and makes the sweat smell nice. Add cinnamon to your food when you have history of foul body odor.

To prevent excessive sweating and body odor, add these four home remedies to your bathroom cabinet to keep your skin clean and dry.

    1. Shave Underarms
A lot of hair under your arms can create a swampy environment for bacteria. Hair is porous, meaning it easily absorbs odors and can even slow the evaporation of sweat. Hair traps odorants, especially when it’s located in your armpits. Burns recommends shaving your underarms to stop body odor so the “bacteria doesn’t get trapped in the hair thus decreasing odor.”

    2. Change Shoes
A common misconception is body odor comes from the armpits, but one of the foulest odors actually come from your feet. Changing your shoes will allow them to air and prevent the odors from staying concentrated in one area. This cuts down the bacteria that is in the shoe. Burns’ rule of thumb: “Everyone should be switching up their shoes every 500 miles anyway.”

    3. Apply Vinegar
Vinegar, whether it’s apple cider or white, can help lower the pH level of the skin for an anti-bacteria environment. Dr. Mehmet Oz of The Dr. Oz Show recommends this home remedy because the bacteria cannot thrive in acidity, and the smell will dissipate. It’s best to splash the vinegar under the arms when you get out of the shower, but not immediately after you have shaved your underarms. This is safe for the skin as long as it’s unbroken. It’s best to do a test on a small patch of skin to make sure you do not react badly.

    4. Apply Witch Hazel
Witch hazel and tea tree oil are natural sterilizers that can be applied on your armpits, since they are natural antiseptics. They lower the skin’s pH, which makes it impossible for bacteria to survive. Directly applying witch hazel on your skin can serve as a regular deodorant. For those who are prone to sweating, Burns suggests “wiping [underarms] down at least 4 times a day.”

These four home remedies for body odor will help eliminate foul smells and leave you feeling healthy, clean, and fresh.
