If you could only have one sidearm for survival purposes....

Y'all know where this thread is going. TSHTF, you grab a couple of rifles, ammo, food, water, and a sidearm. Which is it going to be? Me, I am grabbing my 1911 .45. Not my .22, .22 Mag. .357 Sig, or even .357 Mag. Why? Because of the following reasons. For one, I have lots of .45 ammo, I buy it in bulk and it is pretty cheap. 2. It is a good round, the .45 is a legendary man-stopper, and lets face it that is what a handgun is more than likely going to be used for as TS has already HTF. 3. It is reliable. I never have any problems with my single stack mags. 4. Thin and easily concealable. 5. and most importantly, I KNOW WHERE EACH AND EVERY BULLET IS GOING TO HIT. For some unknown reason, I can hit with this sidearm better than any others I have ever owned.

What about y'all? What would you grab? Melbo, I am guessing you are reaching for your Glock 19, if you don't already have it on you. (BTW, I picked up one of those rubber sleeves for my Glock 32 the other day, it fits my hand a lot better now.)

I was going to say .32 H&R Mag off the top of my head but you have me convionced now that .45 is prolly better

I think 9mm is a viable grab and go too.

E.L., I DID like that 357 sig of yours a whole lot. Not sure of it's SHTF use, but a really good gun. :)

Hmm. Maybe we will have to make a trade. I do like the .357 Sig, as it is a hot load. Not to mention seeing a former DEA Agent/Instructor show us what it would do to kevlar, penetrated it like a hot knife through butter when the .45, .40, .357 Mag. and other assorted rounds wouldn't. I just don't shoot my Glock that well, after seeing you shoot it though, you obviously do.

I agree with the .45, but I would prefer to have a suppressed Sig Tactical 9mm. I could probably take small game with the suppressor on so it could be a survival type weapon and the suppressor could be removed if not needed.

For some reason or another before I even saw the avatar I knew that Clyde had to be A. Anonymous.

That is a sweet looking Sig. The rail for the light mount is a bonus.

I found this post and a few others that had gotten lost when we rearranged things. My afro bump was to try to find it. i couldn't and then just canned the ghost forum and moved it here. [peep]

TRP Operator .45..... But it was a hard choice...
would definitely be looking at that Ruger.22 bullbarrel and that ammo I could carry in a small space.....

It would be a tough choice between my 22 rimfire and 45, but I would undoubtedly end up packing the 1911, as it has so much going for it and would be hard to beat...

While clumsier than a light saber, I think I would still have to go with a blaster. Just the coolness factor of seeing a light beam splitting the skull of your nemisis. b::
