Just Let Sweetie Know of My "No-Fly" Decision

It was destined to happen. I've been watching all the brouhaha about the new "security" checks at airports and decided about a month ago that I'm not gonna put myself in the position of either having pornographic pics of myself taken or getting touched and groped where only Sweetie should touch and grope me.

I (and the folks I work with) travel on the average once a month to various places here in the U.S. that take me about 7 or 8 hours to fly to. I've been kinda humorously asking at work "Which are you gonna do, let 'em take pornographic pics of you or sexually molest you?" Most folks don't even think twice about how wrong either of those choices are. Sheesh.

Soooooo, I let Sweetie know tonight of how I felt and explained to her why. She looked kind of puzzled. Then, I asked how she felt about letting our 14 yo son get either pornographed or groped. She got all quesey about that and I could see the lightbulb go off. First thing she asked was "Isn't there any resistance to this? When the airlines start feeling it in their bottom line, maybe they'll do something about it." Also, she wanted to know how TSA could get away with this. I told here the analogy about the frog in the pot of water and again, saw the lightbulb go on. She's fully aware of the 4th amendment, but hadn't put it all together.

Sooooooooooo, we'll see how things go. This is definitely gonna kill our loose plans for a Hawaii vacation this spring! :(

Good for you! That is the only way we are going to get our Liberty back. Jos six pack has to tell the airlines "see you later" until this B.S. stops.

Good for you man ! I have never boarded an air craft and with these new " security measures " i most likely will not in the future. As far as i know none of the airports in Canada have the new scanners ...but eel free to correct me if i am wrong. The thing is the company(ies) who make these scanners could have avoided these problems. They could have had the scanner show a stick figure or a generic human outline rather than the actual person's figure. But with these new ultra realistic images then can charge more $$ for the machines. As far as having someone grope me like that unless i am dating them or they have a medical degree..it's not gonna happen. If it means i don't fly then i won't fly ...i've made it 28 years without flying so far....

Today the rubber met the road, so to speak.

We've got an audit coming up in a few weeks at a place about a 2 day drive away and had our planning meeting today. I informed the audit team leader I was gonna drive. He said go talk to our Financial gal to see how I needed to do things. That's when things got "interesting".

I went into the Financial gal's office and asked if she had a cell phone I could borrow. She said yes. I asked if it would take pictures. She said yes. I said in my sweetest voice "Good. Would you please stand up, take off your clothes and let me take a picture of you?" Needless to say, that didn't go over so good. :(

So then I asked if she would stand up and let me sexually molest her. That went over even worse! She started getting pretty miffed at me and at that point I said "That's what's happening at airports now. I don't want anyone cept my wife to see or touch me like that. Do you understand what I'm saying and why I'm saying it?" She breathed a major sigh of relief! I explained how I felt about our rights being violated, that I wasn't willing to be treated like a criminal for no reason, brought up the Constitution amendment, told her bout Sweetie's and my conversation, told her I wasn't willing to let my 14 yo son go through this and finished with "Nope, that just ain't right!"

Soooooo, now she has to contact corporate to see how I can drive and what I can charge or even if they'll let me! I hope to have an answer by late this afternoon.

As I was leaving, she said "I have no problem with TSA doing that to me cuz I'd rather have that happen than the plane blow up." I responded "But TSA hasn't prevented a single explosion on a plane. They've NEVER caught anyone with a bomb." She looked a bit perplexed. Then I asked how she would feel about her 18 yo daughter getting pornographed or molested. She said "Well, if that's what it takes to keep us safe." At that point, I realized she would never understand.

I opted out Dec 26th and the result was a lot of drama. I was surrounded by TSA and finally groped/assaulted. In addition, my license and boarding pass were taken and photocopied. Being put into x-ray and/or "enhanced" pat-down should not and can not be a condition for flying. We have done nothing wrong.

You have to just quit flying folks. I love going to Hawaii and wanted to move there. My wife and I were last there in 2004. Was going to take the wife back for our anniversary this year. Won't be happening. When the airlines are bankrupt, this violation of our 4th amendment rights will stop.

This is going to be the scene of the next 'Melbo, you have to fly here for business' declaration. I'll let you know how it goes. I fly 6 times a year for busyness

Forgive me if im wrong, and i really hope that i am, but if i remeber right the airlines have no say in what the TSA does. Its all up to the FAA and homeland security. Even at the individual airports, if they elect to opt for private security screening, the security screeners have to abide by TSA standards. So boycotting the airlines wont do much i dont think. Its gonna take fedral court action i think. as i said, i hope im wrong on this.

Hm. There are enough monkeys, country wide, that I'd not be too surprised that we could set up stages to carry people and luggage coast to coast and border to border with each stage no more than 200 miles. I guarantee you won't get patted down on my stage.

I personally can live with NO flying, no trains, no busses - but if they start having the State Troopers do 'full service pat downs' ("gropes") like the TSA at their checkpoints on the highways, THEN I am in trouble.

My extended family lives on another continent (philippines) So i have no choice. When i was there last time i ended up flying back through china. I had to get off the plane then go through security again to reboard. When they went through my carryon and saw my Bible they talked among themselves then called me over and said somthing in chinese then let me on. It's a royal pitb to fly and we only do it when we have to go see my wifes family.
