Thinking about buying a dirt bike to use after a emp.
If I were to buy like a older XR650 what items would be needed to put in a Faraday cage to install after?
Also I was thinking about a Metal garden shed and turn it into a Faraday cage store the whole bike in.
    any ideas ?

there is a few threads on here about the cages and what people are or want to use for them ..
And it seems the conversations start getting heated over what will work or not .. i am still a little confused on what will actually work ...
So im looking forward to seeing the responces!!!

I would look at something OLDER, that didn't have Electronic Ignition... No Modules, or anything, but Points and Relays.... An old Harley Pan-Head, or Knuckle-Head Engine in a Light Frame... That makes an EMP Proof Transportation Machine....

Kawasaki 650 has the electronic ignition, no fly by wire or fuel injection. Charging system in most have at least diodes.

Best bet is a Metal shipping container as a garage.

OTOH, some older Brit bikes still used a FBM magneto into the 60s.

Yes the KLR is the 650 single, carb type non abs just a solid bike.

Easy to lower to a decent height too.

I have thought about the KLR over the last couple years , finally rode my brothers a month ago. It will fit the bill. So keep a spare electronic ignition for it?

Yes and check on the charging system.

I've been looking into it also.

Bad plan, failure prone bike. On the other hand, if wrenching is a good thing to do that you like, look closer. A quick google search will uncover all the not so good to go with the "joys" of owning a mechanic's wet dream. I was looking into getting one of those myself, but the downsides ruled it out.

Pick up an old BMW instead, more reliable, more class.

I think my brother may still have his old 60s Air Head.

Most sensors are hall effect type and maybe some of the 2- wire variable reluctance sensor or other type of solid state device, so yes.

Relays? Important ones such as start or coling fan.

    Not all containers are equal.

Doors often have a shaped edge and they capture the seal in a channel that is easy to protect with a wire mesh. Floors? Buy metal.

EMP is best protected by 180 degree turns and wave guides.

Most Japanese bikes switched to electronics during the 70's, some in to the early 80's. Some of the 80's bikes can be retrofitted to the 70's points systems, if there was no major engine redesigns in between.

Not an off road bike, but I know the XS650 Yamaha can be retrofitted to points, or earlier models fitted with late model electronics.
