has anyone here purchased or used one of these simple pump devices.

This seems a whole lot less expensive that the high cost of those specific food saver bags.

Watching the video you are mostly removing the oxygen (you're not killing any BACTERIA..like a regular canning process. I use the electric "foodsaver" stuff for Repacking dry goods. its the same as the foodsaver stuff( except you can't custom size the container.

Just so you realize:"Anything that require refridgeration once opened would still need it" I mho....

Any bag that is not mylar is permeable. Fine if you want to wrap leftovers or for freezer storage....not acceptable for long term larder.

I agree it only removes the O2 and as far as micro nasties I rely on my pressure canner and all that entails.
Freezing is another story which brings up vacume bagging.
For 5gal pails of wheat berries or rice or other grains sure mylar is the way to go cause its long term.
Most retail products, vacume pack products are not using mylar but a type of thick plastic. I once came across a home size unit which used that sort of commercial packaging but no idea where I put the link.
This pump thing looks useful for use with freezer bags and storage under a year.
