Ron Paul will not run as a third party.

February 8, 2008 Whoa! What a year this has been. And what achievements we have had. If I may quote Trotsky of all people, this Revolution is permanent. It will not end at the Republican convention. It will not end in November. It will not end until we have won the great battle on which we have embarked. Not because of me, but because of you. Millions of Americans -- and friends in many other countries -- have dedicated themselves to the principles of liberty: to free enterprise, limited government, sound money, no income tax, and peace. We will not falter so long as there is one restriction on our persons, our property, our civil liberties. How much I owe you. I can never possibly repay your generous donations, hard work, whole-hearted dedication and love of freedom. How blessed I am to be associated with you. Carol, of course, sends her love as well. Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get. But with so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter. Of course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican party, so there will be no third party run. I do not denigrate third parties -- just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the ballot-access restrictions on them. But I am a Republican, and I will remain a Republican. I also have another priority. I have constituents in my home district that I must serve. I cannot and will not let them down. And I have another battle I must face here as well. If I were to lose the primary for my congressional seat, all our opponents would react with glee, and pretend it was a rejection of our ideas. I cannot and will not let that happen. In the presidential race and the congressional race, I need your support, as always. And I have plans to continue fighting for our ideas in politics and education that I will share with you when I can, for I will need you at my side. In the meantime, onward and upward! The neocons, the warmongers, the socialists, the advocates of inflation will be hearing much from you and me. Sincerely, Ron<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I just got that as well.
    Sounds like he's quitting.

I can't blame him. We raised 20 Mil in the 3rd qtr and 5mil this quarter. He's running out of steam because we are losing hope and not funding.

If he would come up with a foreign policy of any kind he would grab way more votes from the Republican party members. IMHO

    not mine.

This may still be a ruse. He may still be trying to get a few more primaries in to make the vote fraud vividly apparent in as many states as possible. It may be that he'll announce a third party run later on, maybe after Huckabee is gone. Then it'll *really* be obvious that he's being shafted and the underdog thing will work even more. If he goes third party, I say he'll do it around the time his new book comes out.

I agree that it's frustrating that we see what appears to be a losing strategy. We really do need our general to show us a strong strategy. We need to feel that wild hope and passion we felt in December again.

However, if you've read Sun Tzu's Art of War, you know that this kind of deception can be very effective. The skillful general deceives his enemy so that they let their guard down, then strikes decisively at the opportune moment. The catch for Ron Paul is that if he waits too long to deal a fatal blow to his opponents, his grassroots support might dry up and he won't have as much momentum behind the final push.

We've got to stick with him, and we've got to keep that energy crackling and humming. Remember the multiple standing ovations he got at CPAC yesterday! We can do this. We have to do this. Literally millions of lives hang in the balance.

Even if he's not on the ballot, he's got my write in vote!

He has no great wish to be a pushy general, it is his want that he be allowed to lead, to do what the executive branch is supposed to do; that is, carry out the wishes of the electorate as given via the congress and allowed by the Constitution. (You'll remember that early military officers, right on thru the War of NOrthern Agression) were elected from their own number.)

He does, for sure, need to keep the pot warm somehow until the elephant's candidate is pinned down.

Observation from yesterday. No signs out except a couple yard signs for Paul. NOrthern Virginians are in wait and see mode.

The other thing I hear a lot is, what one piece of legislation has his signature on?

    Thanks BJ
Is there a list of the ones that made it into law?

I'll bet the reason he won't run as a third party is due to the fact that he's up for reelection in the House and needs the party support. I don't think he really believes he'll get the presidential nomination, and that's a shame.

That I don't know, but as I look down the page, most of the legislation makes too much sense for Congress to ever sign any of it into law. There's a whole lot of good proposals there.
