We all experience sleeplessness to one degree or another. Sleepless nights due to stress, worry, nerves. We all go through it about once a year or so, on average. Some more so than others. What have you done to prepare yourself for the inevitable sleepless nights ahead after the SHTF?

I can tell you what we have done. We have sleeplessness issues in our family. I can go literally sleepless for night after night. My wife is the same way. So on a non-overstressed night where life is pretty "normal" we could lose sleep over some undefined worry. We have a couple of remedies up our sleeves, though.

Now think about the stresses that will be involved with a SHTF/WROL scenario. Many of us will lose a lot of sleep. At least until the stress levels drop and we get back into a new routine, or start feeling safer.

So I am listing here some remedies my family uses to treat sleeplessness:

Warm milk with honey (great for kids)
Benadryl - 25 mg - this is the most common ingredient in over the counter sleep aids from Unisom to Tylenol PM.
Melatonin - dosages vary from 1 to 9 mg. This is non habit forming, non addictive, and it works. It is available in fast dissolve and chewable tablets.
Hot toddy - 4 ounces of sweetened lemon juice and 1 ounce of hard liquor (traditionally whiskey) warmed until it just barely starts to steam, then sipped (works great for colds and flu too)
Lavender tea with honey - the scent of lavender is linked to relaxation
Soak in warm bath with Epsom salts and a few drops of lavender oil.

I know this is only a list of the "remedies" used by my family. I am interested in any other remedies you or your family uses...

As always, pray for the best, prepare for the worst.

It is horribly frustrating when you can't sleep. I sleep walk and have night terrors. Every few months this comes with a two week period of insomnia. I recieve medical care for this but am unable to take the perscriptions medications. They tend to make it harder to recover from the terrors. This means natural remedies. A few things that might help:

Lemon Balm tea (Use 2 to 4 teaspoons per cup of water and add honey. This one usually works pretty well.)

Valerian (This one is really good. Use the capsules or extract because the taste is horrible. Insomnia is punishment enough.

Be careful which lavendar you use. Some (the Spanish lavender especially) is actually a stimulant.

Passionflower, Camomile, or Catnip tea might also help.
