Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job.
I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit.
In order to get that paycheck I am required to pass a random urine test, which I have no problem with. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.
Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check, because I have to pass one to earn it for them?
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass.
Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

I brought that up to Tracy when we were talking last week...We have to take one to even get hired, and then randome testing.....(They always sent me as the "ringer" because they didn't want the person they were singling out to feel picked on......sheeesh)

But it only seems fair to me....

    I agree...

If your tax dollars actually paid for the welfare folk, then I would agree with your discomfort. But, the effects of it all is the taxation of the masses is a form of communism, creating social class envy and it pits one class against another and its goal is to create a single class of people, taking from the wealthy and distributing the wealth to the poor. And the reality is, no money collected from federal taxation is ever applied to the people and their social programs, as it is wholly absorbed by the national debt.

I would direct your discontent toward the real culprits, as it may be more helpful. ;)

We have the policy of random checking, but the company doesn't random check anyone unless they suspect someone of being under the the influence, in the past 6 months we've lost 2 or 3 works to this, 3 weeks ago one guy got caught drinking on the job and they decided to keep him, they stated they wanted help him through his problem, the only difference between this guy and the other 2 or 3 is the one they kept working worked in the office and not in a manufacturing job, hmm, I see a social divide here.
I could care less because they can send me in whenever they want and I'll pass anytime.

Now, as far as people getting freebies from our tax money, yes, they should be required to pass test such as this, they should also be required to work to get off of such kickbacks as soon as possible, to many people in this country are just milking it. The area I live in has a vast spread of income. From the very rich, summer vacation people to the local population, some living check to check. I see many of these people living check to check driving brand new 50K trucks & SUV's and using food stamps to buy food, WTF! My wife and I both work hard, raising our 2 kids, we live in a nice home, not a castle, we don't have cars we can't afford, my van has 125K miles on it, but it's paid for, I have a new car but it is not fancy, doesn't have cruise control, doesn't have power locks but it gets me from point A to point B with no issues and it cost under 17K to buy new. We take the kids on vacation every year, and when we want to buy something we do, but we pay for it not run it up on credit.
What's the reward for someone not to use welfare? they drive better cars then me, they eat, they get a place to live. Maybe a pee test is the place to start, you need to pass this to get help, not random but everytime! For people who are working hard to try to overcome not making enough money to feed the family would be fine with this I'm sure, as the people who REALLY need this help and really are trying to better their situation would pass this kind of testing all the time.
sorry for the rant, this is a subject that chaps my butt!!!!

Quig I agree with welfare recepients needing to pass a urine test. They should also be required to look for work, just like those that receive unemployment benefits.

I wonder how long drug testing would be in effect if politicans were required to pass a urinalysis? Why do I have to pass a urine test but those who make the laws and perhaps have their finger on the nuclear button, so to speak, not be required to pass a urinalysis?

I can not count how many times I've been violated, isn't that what it is.

Quig, it's a novel idea and sounds fair enough, but I wholeheartedly agree with Brokor...... your tax money doesn't pay for the welfare folk, it pays for interest that the fed reserve charges us for our own money. Your money doesn't go to the poor, it goes to the rich who don't earn they're keep either. They keep us at odds with smoke and mirrors like this and we don't see who the real enemy is. We shouldn't be arguing about where the tax money goes, we should be mad that we're getting screwed out of it in the first place.

Besides that, I've always hated the idea that big brother can tell me what I can and can't put into my own body when I'm not at my job. A person can stay drunk all the time when off duty and it's ok, but if you smoke some mj.... your an unfit employee and are terminated. Makes no sense.

Some of the people can receive "disability" for drug abuse (which might as well be welfare).
