    WHO
Typhus, also known as typhus fever, is a group of infectious diseases that include epidemic typhus, scrub typhus and murine typhus.Common symptoms include fever, headache, and a rash.[1] Typically these begin one to two weeks after exposure

    WHAT
Typhus has a long and deadly history, especially epidemic typhus. Typhus is caused by bacteria. Rickettsia prowazekii causes epidemic typhus. Rickettsia typhi and, occasionally, R. felis cause endemic typhus and are transmitted to humans by vectors such as lice (mainly epidemic) and fleas (mainly endemic).

    WHERE
    The City of Angles
Los Angeles's homelessness epidemic has created a typhus epidemic

Typhus reaches 'epidemic levels' in parts of Los Angeles

living in fetid squalor brings vermin (mice/rats, fleas, lice, ick)

That vermin brings disease. Typhus is now EPIDEMIC in LA - thank the 'homeless support activists".

Saw that, I hope they have it isolated and people in the infected area take the proper precautions...

Homeless camps (AKA Hoovervilles) are not new.

The History of Central Park's Hooverville, the Great Depression Pop-up Shanty Town | 6sqft

A Shanty town, but not abject squalor as seen today

    Extract from link:
In December of that year, the New York Times reported living quarters for nine men including six shacks, one with a stove. One of the men was quoted, “We work hard to keep it clean, because that is important,” pointing to the care and consideration Hooverville residents gave their unconventional homes. Shortly after, seven of the men were arrested as vagrants, but the charges were dismissed. The article also reported on the daily routine of the men consisting of morning repairs of their comfort stations where they would shave and make themselves presentable.

These people didn't have jobs and there was no massive 'welfare net' to supply them. Unlike today's drug addled drunks that live in their own sewage....

Last homeless camp I saw in St. Louis, I was like OK here is the trash dump........ where is the camp. Hooverville residents had some pride and drive to do better. Modern homeless campers seem to be largely strung out junkies and former mental patients, at least from my perspective.

Isn't Typhus spread by fleas? Oddly enough, I don't believe I have ever seen a flea on a dog or cat, anywhere in Cambodia.

    Why am I not surprised?

With all the fecal matter lining the streets of San Fran it's only a matter of time before it finds its way into the city's water system. All that's needed is one illegal immigrant with cholera.

California's playing with fire by virtually inviting everyone, homeless, illegals, etc. and residents there are risking their health. Let's hope infected residents don't spread bacterial and viral infection to other parts of the country like they've spread their diseased ideology.

It's just one plane ride or hopped train away and your home town is next.

Yes Matilde, there really is a reason to protect our boarders and Disease Prevention into the US was the reason for Ellis Island. Some of the sheeple still claim other wise.

Active Fleas leave the bodies of most warm blooded animals as the body cools. This time line and bets of such an exit are off for hatchling fleas or injured fleas.
Be aware, fleas can jump as much as 12 Feet, so do not approach any bodies for salvage.

I do know that fleas around barns with warm soil will wait for a victim and in any place that is warm enough for them to live for several weeks.

In Texas we have a handy little bug that builds a funnel trap in sandy soil that catches fleas or other small bugs. Do not spray insecticide unless you know what you are killing.

"The Ant Lion, lives buried in the sand at the bottom of a funnel shaped depression, usually is sand or loose soil. Ants and other small insects fall in and slide down to the bottom where the waiting Ant Lion, seizes them in its mandibles and eats them."

Yet another reason the BOB Group can be extinct while those who shelter in place may be better off.

I have lots of ant lions, maybe that's why no fleas.
But have lots of fire ants.

Since I moved here in 2010 I don't think my dogs have ever gotten fleas.

Fire ants are an invasive species I kill as needed with local application of small amounts of specific insecticide.

As a kid we dropped fleas, from, the neighbors dog, in the funnels.

I'd drop ants down the ant lion's funnel, then quickly realized I was facing battle I couldn't win. Off to the laundry room I went, and when bleach wouldn't stop them, and a little laundry soap mixed with bleach created a less than acceptable result, I resorted to diesel fuel and it wasn't until I had burned down half the yard that my Dad suggested I find another hobby. (This was out west, the "yard" was 2 acres of dirt in case anybody is wondering.) Hey, I had made a really nice construction pit for my toy truck enterprise, I wasn't going to allow these exoskeleton mutants to take over, no way.
