I love rocket stoves for their simplicity and efficiency. Everyone should own at least one. I bought mine, though. Seems like every time I meet someone and get a chance to mention about rocket stoves, just about everyone asks, "What is that?" Just when you think everybody knows all about them, it turns out there are actually a lot of folks who still need to be introduced to what they are and how they work.
Here is a link to a website featuring thermal mass storage rocket stove heaters....the webpage has many pictures, diagrams and youtube videoclips, including step by step instructions for designing and building a rocket stove thermal mass storage heater. rocket stove mass heater
Thanks, Chelloveck! I was getting into the pictures and description and I started thinking, "Yeah, but you'd have to keep pushing the sticks/wood into the combustion chamber...." and then the design showed the fuel standing up (which makes it self-feeding thanks to gravity) and burning sideways!(???). That is a concept that had not occurred to me. Very slick.
Once your fire is going you can drop in some slightly thicker chunks from the top. Easier to "load" the fire box that way. Just watch your fingers--that fire coming out is forced air and hot--lol.
No probs....am looking at making one myself...I have an inexhaustible supply of 20 litre vegetable oil drums...have been testing my jigsaw in cutting them up and will have a go at constructing one.....yes...I know...pictures...pictures....pictures ; )
