I just bought a socom2, my first 308. Its shoots well except for a few failures to extract. Anyone here have the same problem and whats the fix if there is one?

I just signed up on the forum btw. Looks like a good one. hello to all.

A failure to extract could be a rough chamber or a weak extractor, or lack of sufficient gas pressure. If you pull a hunk out of the cartridge rim on the failures to extract, it could be a rough chamber. Look at an extracted piece of brass, if it doesn't have deep scratches on it, its probably not a rough chamber. If it leaves the brass in the chamber, and you have to let the bolt go forward to try it again, it could be a weak extractor. Some weapons just require a couple of hundred rounds for a good mechanical break-in, clean the gas system, oil it real good and shoot some more.

Since you are new to the M1A club - here is a link to a guy that can answer just about any of the tough questions that might come up in the future. http://www.imageseek.com/m1a/ It is "Different". He just answered a question for me about the year of manufacture of my M1A. Lot of good history and info.

Also a forum that covers just this style of rifle, (I'm not a member and you don't have to register to view the threads.) http://www.m-14forum.com/upload/

Good luck with your new toy, love mine.
