This was silly. And those two dorks were so bad, they were funny. The guy telling how to get ten years at Club Fed by sawing off the shotgun to carry in your glove box was especially enlightening.

These two Yahoos were trying to SELL something .... They are not particularly good at it, or knowledgeable... My opinion.... YMMV...

No, Gator, your post was fine, it is instructive... It is THEIR presentation that lacks creditability... If we can learn something from each others Posts, that is the Point here.... All points of view are relevant, just some are positive, and some need explaining.... or more information....

According to the INDEPENDENT AMERICAN ONLINE MAG (now sadly out of out of print after six years, but available for $20 on CD w/all issues from Northwoods Traders, POB 21, Fernwood, ID 83830 - HIGHLY recommended! No, I don't get any money from them.) you only need SIX guns for survival. A battle rifle (a REAL rifle in a REAL rifle cartridge like the .30-06, .308, 7mm/8mm Mauser, .303 Brit, 7.7 Jap, etc., etc.), a carbine (.223/7.62x39), shotgun (BPS, Rem 870, Win 1200/1300, Ithaca 37), CF handgun in .38 Spec (I recommend a .357 and using .38 Spec)/9mm and UP, a .22 rifle (too many good ones to list), .22 handgun for a trainer for your CF handgun (if you like wheelguns, get a .22 revolver that feels like your main pistol, same with an auto). The nice thing about these guys is they don't lie to you and actually WENT AND DONE before reporting on it, not BS you.

The thing about any list of "perfect" guns is that it is primarily based on the opinion of the person making it...and it is really true that opinions are like rectal cavities in that they are exclusive to each individual.

My personal list would include a rifle chambered in 5.56, a 20 gauge pump or semi auto, a 9mm handgun and carbine that share magazines, a .22 rifle (my favorite these days is the 10/22 breakdown...though a Marlin 60 is a good substitute) and a suppressed .22 pistol. I could go into my reasons for these particular choices, but those reasons tend to relate to where I live, my personal experience and my situation.

Any list of "ideal guns" would only be relevant to the specific location you might be in. 5.56, .22 or 9mm are all EXCELLENT rounds, unless you've got a brown bear staring you in the eyeballs. :)

If I could have one gun ( not for personal defense , but a SHTF, Ranch and farm) it would be my boyhood favorite the savage 24. It was a .22 over a .410 shotgun. I lived on a ranch and it went everywhere. For squirrels , quail , rabbits ,doves to coyotes with slugs it did it all.

Part nostalgic and practicality as well from a time where a boy, a dog, a gun was the most fun one could ever hope to have in the summer and fall.

@HappyPuppy, that gun is our trainer. The .22/,410 over and under with selective hammer and side release lever by Savage. They are no longer made by Savage in that size.(Remington makes one, but the barrels are reversed/ just seems wrong) though they do make a ,223/.20ga, and I am tempered.
