Police were called to the motel around 3 a.m. Tuesday. There, they were met by a 23-year-old man from Florida, who told them he'd shot at two men trying to rob him. The man gave police his .45 caliber gun, which they say he legally possessed and has a conceal-carry permit for from Florida.

Shortly after they arrived, police found one of the suspects in the parking lot of Jack's Ironhorse Bar on St. Charles Rock Road. That suspect, 39-year-old Ricardo Crossland, had been shot in the hand and leg. Crossland, who is now charged with robbery and armed criminal action, has previously been convicted of robbery, burglary, and drug charges. Crossland lives in the 71oo block of Beulah in St. Louis.

Police continue to look for the second suspect, and they weren't sure if that suspect had been hit by any of the shots fired by the man from Florida.

    +1 for the good guys!!

I had seen this story last week I think, and there was a bit more to it. After the bad guys got the money and started to walk way the one with the gun (which I think was a toy or pellet gun) turned and pointed it at the good guy like he was going to shoot, that's when the good guy dispensed his own form of justice.

    Take care and be safe!!

Sure do hope there is reciprocity between there and FL, or that the prosecutor decides to not press charges -- (And the guy gets his gun back.)

ghrit no need to worry Missouri recognizes Florida's permits and according to the local paper the shooter went "On his way" . Now if that means he had his gun after the whole thing was said and done I am not sure .

I do know that the local government despite the fact that the county police department had to be dragged kicking and screaming into issuing permits seems to have a positive record when it comes to citizens defending themselves with deadly force .

If they have ever prosecuted a person who used force legally to defend themselves or their home they have done a good job of covering it up as it has never made the local news .

We even had a case a few years ago where an elderly man awoke from a nap with a 6'3 230lb 13 YO standing over him with a knife in his hand , the home owner pulled a pistol and killed him . He had cut the screen in the screen door to break in . Kid was black home owner white and despite a short news piece trying to drum up sympathy for the kid because he had supposedly done it on a "dare" from neighborhood kids and wouldn't hurt anyone , was a good kid yada yada ya add nauseam the whole thing just went away .

Good news all around, then. I did some looking a couple weeks back, and there are a lot more reciprocity agreements in place now than 5 or so years back. All on the QT it seems, but a GOOD thing. Now, if I can just get VA and MD in that catagory, I'll get up to one of the ranges in Frederick more often.

Packing.org does a good job of keeping up with the different agreements.
