Okay, I'll take a shot. This is stupid.

It weighs just 1.3lbs. Yay. Add that weight to the weight of the kevlar helmet and bingo you have a sack of sugar sitting on your head at 4.95 lbs. (rough estimate of 3.1 for XS and 4.2 for XL added and divided by two to get average weight plus the weight of the face shield).

And from what I see of the shield, it buckles on the back. I don't know how that will affect movement for looking up or down as I imagine it is either free floating (just buckled behind the head) or snapped to the kevlar button (if they put one on the back of the kevlar which I doubt).

And does anyone see where it may hook onto the front of the kevlar helmet or is the front just free floating too? If it is free floating, can you imagine the pressure from a round striking that shield driving it into your face?

I think they are on to a good idea, though if it were me, I'd go with a full helmet instead of two pieces. Then again I have had the pleasure of wearing the kevlar and they are not a joy. More like a necessary evil. Haha.

Oh, and another thing I happened to think about. Wonder what the hassle is like trying to take that thing off and don your gas mask?

    Just my thoughts on it.

It is much like the Maxiofacial Shield that we wear on our HGU-56's, someone just expanded the idea o the ACH. The way that I see it attaches to the helmet, it has a socket that lets it abut against the ear prorusions of the helmet and the exterior strap uses pressure and friction to hold it in place. This way, if the blast comes from the front, it will simply push the shield into the kevlar. I would be interested in seeing results of side blast as it looks like a small cut on the nylon strap would allow it to release and blow off. What I have been seeing here are riot shields. I think they are a better option as they can be flipped up when not needed. What you don't see in the picture very well is how it will block downward head movement when wearing the throat protector on the IBA.
As for the gas mask, mine stays under my bed in my duffle bag, so I don't think it will be much of an issue.
