Have you ever healed yourself?

Have you healed yourself? What I mean is, have you ever used what you have learned on-line or via reading and been able to heal what ails you? I am on trial #2 of trying to heal myself without medical intervention. I know what it is and the normal cure is to go the Doctor, get some antibiotics and medicinal cream. But if this was post- SHTF, there would not be doctors or I would not be able to afford them so I am trying to cure this on my own.

Yes, some would say do not be stupid just go to the Drs but I am in this survival thing to win and thrive. I have a skin condition so it is not life threatening, I know that. Currently I have eliminated all manufactured soaps and lotions. After trying a couple of different natural suggestions (coconut oil- fail, teatree oil- nope, and apple cider vinegar- that hurt), I am just using water and putting colloidal silver on the area. Things have stopped spreading and are drying but not yet healed. In a few days if not cured, I will try true from the plant aloe. Knowing how to treat things and administer your own medical treatment is worthwhile knowledge.

When we have illnesses in our family, I will research and even print off natural healing methods or old-fashion remedies. We try many of them in our home but often we are forced to seek medical care. Some people are fortunate to have nurses or doctors in their family but I do not. Some of the info on the internet is garbage so these trials of trying to heal myself are helping me to eliminate the crap resources.

*** please note: I am not promoting that people do not seek medical help.

Yes, some years ago I had a skin infection on one leg. Still had my health plan from my job at that time.
But, I wanted to see if self medication would help. I kept close watch on it in case a doctor visit was necessary.
Between washing the area with hot soapy water, drying then applying a povidone iodine solution, followed by a clean bandage, it eventually cleared up and healed. Yes, likely took longer than if a doc treated it, but it worked.
No expensive or hard to get meds needed.
    Worked for me.
Broke my small toe once. Bandaged it, and it healed.

Of course, having a very high pain threshold helps too.

We do most of our own First Responder Medical and RN stuff in house since AlaskaChick is a semi-ReTIRED RN... Right now she is dealing with a sore on the bottom of my Right Foot, at I didn't catch when it happened, because I have NO FEELING below the Ankle Bone in that foot, due to a 4Wheeler Accident, 20 years ago, I broke both lower Bones in my right Leg, and have a bit of Neropothy as well... It is a "Soak in A HOT EpsenSalt Bath with H2O2 added for 30 minutes, and then repack the and reDress the wound. It is a very Slow Healing process, that likely will take a month or so.. We will see....

I have treated myself many times, using the knowledge gained from focused,(college level) study and my time in the ER.

I stress that this was 'advanced first aid level' treatment. I fully understand when it is necessary to seek professional help and care. Oh, and prescription drugs.

My last excursion - I dropped/splashed boiling hot green tea on my legs. Both stupid and entirely preventable. Some lessons must be re-learned, no matter how painful.

The outside 1/2 of my lower right leg was fully involved - with about 20% of that 2nd degree burns.
The inside of my left leg at the ankle about 1/2 way down the inside - with 2nd degree burns on the entire joint.

After 2 weeks, I in went into the doctors office to get some oral antibiotics and additional Silvadene creme as I had run out. Had I not had a lot of experience with dealing with these kinds of burns, I would shave gone to the ER. Pain management was done via cold soaks and some limited OTC meds, mostly acetaminophen (Tylenol). If I was much older, or had any underlying problems, like diabetes, a trip to the ER would have been a no brainer.

I'm now healed, in as much as new skin is fully in place with, thankfully, no scarring. The burned are will remain very sensitive to cold for some time to come.

The ability to care for yourself and family in austere times is, IMO, such an important skill set, it is worth spending money on to obtain professional training and to then volunteer if needed, to use those skills in order to avoid atrophy.

Broke my little toe in Judo class while in college, it stuck out 90 degrees. Snapped it back in and taped it to the other toes for a week.
Buried the blade of a TL29 folder into the second knuckle of my right index finger to the bone. I know it went that deep because of the "Tick" sound it made when I pulled the blade free. Wrapped it in a dirty rag until the work day was over and then scrubbed the wound clean and bandaged. It healed but I had limited movement, couldn't make a fist; until I forced the finger to close several times until I had full movement.
Other than those nothing but a cold, occasional flu, and a bad sunburn....

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Many skin problems respond well to sunlight. Just a bit, not enough to cause discomfort or redness. Hit it maybe twice a day, and you should see results in two or three days.

Sunlight is surprisingly good for ear fungus, BTW .

Sometimes I talk too much about the usefulness of pulsed magnetic fields, but I've seen them do so many amazing things over the last 40 years that I just have to mention them again.

They just devastate bacteria, virus, and fungi, but do no harm at all to human tissue.

Google Dr. Bob Beck. Then go buy an old flash camera from a thrift store...

I have personally seen pulsed magnetic fields stop gangrene dead in it's tracks and chew a firebreak through a skin fungus from Vietnam that the doctors couldn't even identify, much less treat. And a whole lot more.

I went to an old timer Doctor for a DOT physical one time , I had a rash and i asked him about it , his response was to just put some Corn Starch on it , he said that would dry it up . You might could mix up a paste with a little water and wipe it on , let it dry , try that a few times and see what happens.

Yep BUT like others I have more than a little practice in field medicine combined with a better than average understanding of old school traditional medicine. There is a reason the average life expectancy is no longer 45 years old and it is not because traditional/folk medicine was better. Some of the absolute crap cures I see online are at best placebo and at their worst dangerous. Old school medicines were used simply because there was nothing better, just as modern medicine is used because there is nothing better. 40 years from now people will look back at the archaic and primitive instrument and medicines of today and laugh at how barbaric medicine was back then. I like to ride my horse places but he is not the best most of transportation by a long shot, the trick is knowing when the horse is applicable and good enough and when it is time to turn the key on the truck.... same holds true with valid and proven traditional medicine and modern medicine :)

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

I've experimented with herbal and folk remedies.

The first was fasting. If hurt or sick, don't eat for a couple of days and after that only when hungry. Science says digestion uses 40%-60% of body energy. It makes sense that not digesting and using bodily reserves would give more energy to healing.

I make a pain ointment using peppermint oil, oregano oil, orange oil and a carrier oil of rum, almond or coconut depending on preference of viscosity. Works magic for sprains, good for aches, poor for bruising.

I've treated moderate puncture wounds and contusions with cayenne and honey poultice before. It worked fine and healed from the bottom up without pain.

Peppermint oil is first choice for heartburn or indigestion (1 drop on tongue) or sinus problems (2 drops each on sternum and between shoulder blades at bedtime)

I throw chocolate at my wife when she gets bitchy with mysterious regularity. It works!

A few wipes daily with a diesel soaked rag hardens soft hand or feet to promote protective callouses..... I dunno but it seems to work.

There's a lot of things out there. Folks should give them a try in a controlled setting before the SHTF.

I have cleaned and super glued cuts that really needed sutures but achieved acceptable results without a trip to the ER. Stings a bit scrubbing, irrigating and gluing but worth it.

Beyond things like that which are pretty obvious how things would have progressed without self intervention, I will suggest that many times you can not know if your self treatment was actually effective or not.

You may be absolutely convinced it worked and I absolutely know some here will say something they did unequivocally worked but you don’t know. Why? many issues resolve on their own and if your situation resolved you don’t actually Know if it was self resolution vs a result of the treatment. Most times (always a few exceptions) the only way to truly ascertain a treatment’s efficacy for most situations vs the rate at which the body fixes things itself is through statistical analysis with dozens of test cases and control groups for comparison.

Loved your post. Mahalo for your service.

Have healed myself using traditional methods and medicines learned from various Sifus. Also used Hawaiian plant medicine learned from a friend who teaches that stuff. And lastly, use energy healing.

More importantly, have also been able to help others.

The funniest story was one of my students. This was a number of years ago and at the time, I am guess she is in her 70's. I am in front of my class about to start. The class had about 50-60 students that day. She comes up to me and says, "... you HAVE to TOUCH ME." My mind is going, "WTF?!?" My mouth says, "Excuse me?" And she replies, "I know you can heal and I have this pain..."

Thing is I have never done anything for her before, so I don't know where that came from. So I had her see me after class. And no, I did NOT touch her. But I did use energy healing on her and it helped, she tells me.

Weird thing is, when I was in my late teens or early 20's, I was at a party. And they had hired this phychic palm reader person. When it was my turned, I got a funny look. I thought that persone saw my death or something. Instead, I was told, "I see you have power to heal." I thought nothing of it and enjoyed the party.

Also did self surgery in high school. Was in an accident and had dirt and gravel all embedded into one side of my body and face. The ER seemed to have missed a pebble in my cheek bone. After the skin grew back over it, the pressure made it hurt. That's when the trusty swiss army knife EDC came into play. Got the pebble out. Didn't know what it was until then. But good job. No scar.

I put some dirt on a scrape and that made it stop bleeding so I could keep playing. I think I must've been around six.

I cured dandruff and straw-like dry hair with lemon juice.

I cured a badly binding shoulder by doing different movements, strengthening different muscles and pulling the joint back into painless alignment.

I have some regrets from healing myself. I ignored a lot of things that hurt, have many broken bones that were never set properly and healed badly, ground a knee all to pieces over the years, and nearly died from a ruptured appendix. Nowadays, If it hurts, or refuses to heal I'm getting expert help, even if that help is in the kitchen of a retired EMT or old country doctor. It pays to know people who have experience.

I endeavor to learn new things all the time .
recently I learned about eating starches and their benefit in health and loosing weight .
Another new one to me is hydrogen peroxide H202 .
Drinking distilled water with a drop of food grade H202.
And still another for specific mushrooms toting targeted issues .
I have tons of reading to do .
There have been cures for cancer out there a very long time, but the FDA and others fight against them vigorously .
I figure it this way ,
Its my body .and I want food in it , not experimental chemicals from men that only have greed in their heart.
Not all medicine is corrupt but the fact of the matter is I have seen to much evidence to compromise my approval of them.
I have never been admitted into a hospital in my life . though I go there frequently on the behalf of friends.
