Using Batteries really sucks. Been there. Linotype and Plumbers lead should be on every ones supply list. Bees wax is great for the final cleaning of the lead. Electric pots are great but you need to have a cast iron lead pot and dipper.
Plumbers Lead is a thing of the past, and rarely used in todays modern Plumbing. Most LinoType is reused on a daily Basis and rarely leaves the Pressroom, for any reason. You might find some, where a NewsPaper is shutting down, but even then other Printers will grab it long before you can access it. I get my reclaimed Lead from Old Fishing Net LeadLines, and usually collect a few hundred Pounds at a time. .....
Both Plumbers Lead and Linotype can be had online. As for me, well I was at a Newpaper as it went all high tech. Got Linotype ingots because no one else wanted them! Don't forget 50/50 solder to brew your #2 casting material just right.
I have a plumber pot and ladle, and it has been used to make lead boat anchors, with ease. i have a Fresnel lens in frame. i think when the sun is out strong, I may just have to see if solar smelting tire weights is feasible.
