That teen was was kind to her. Much kinder to her then she to him. I strongly dislike the WBC. She is just as nuts as her husband. Wonder what was in that mug.
That interviewer was amazing! He was polite, respectful and got his point across. You can see she never really understood the New Testament
Meh...it wasn't much of a confrontation. The teenager was throwing aunt sally questions (Aunt Sally - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), by video link rather than in person on the picket line. Shirley Phelps Roper's responses were within the context of a Calvinist interpretation of the Bible. By stating that the interviewer would burn in hell, wasn't being unkind; it was stated as a fundamental biblical fact. The Phelps', are no fools: Being largely practising lawyers, they know exactly what they are doing, by generally abiding by the law, if not community norms of common decency. When one is doing God's work, in accordance with his innerrant word, (aka the particular version and interpretation of the Christian Bible that they believe to be authorative), then as ugly and as offensive as their behaviour is, they are acting entirely consistently with their brand of Biblical literalism. Shirley Phelps-Roper has a better knowledge of both Christian Testaments than most cultural, or salad-bar Christians. Just that she and most of her family seems to like God's older stuff better than his newer stuff. As far as Sodomy is concerned, Paul and other New Testament authors have not repealed the gay bashing verses of the "Old" Testament, but have doubled down, reinforcing in the New Testament, the proscriptions that appear in the Old Testament concerning fruity people. The Phelps family's behaviour is consistent with an extreme version of Calvinism, and their world view has to be seen in the context of Fred Phelps's role as a father.
