Check, shit I’ll eventually end up having to write a check to cover this “free money” for the “poor”. The upper middle class always gets bent over. We earn enough to be in the top 5-10% but not enough to be able to afford those high $$ tax lawyers that can get you out of paying...

Well, better than writing a cheque for free money (tax breaks) for the rich, which often as not doesn't go on economic stimulus (spending on consumption)), but on speculative investment and buying back equity which generally make the rich richer, and the poor (and middle class) can go f*ck themselves.

And if you're still breathing without the aid of a ventilator.
From reading reports about Italy I find triage is in full swing across the pond.
Except they use age as the primary triage system.
If over 70 then they just let you die and save the medical devices for the younger folks.
Ahh yes Tax Collecting at its best.

Yep I guess some may smirk at the tragedies of others, but the USA is only weeks behind the curve that Italy has reached...the USA will also be triaging Covid 19. Patients too.....the medical services will be overwhelmed, as in Italy...so who gets a share of the scarce medical resources among the stricken? Not those who are likely to recover without heroic intervention...and not those who are probably only going to die anyway...but to those who have a fighting chance of recovery. That's how triage works on the battlefield...and probably how it will work out with this pandemic also...

Triage is a necessary thing when your medical capabilities are about to be swamped. Otherwise the whole system goes down for everyone. I'm 73 with bad lungs and would not want to deprive someone of a spot who had a chance of survival with treatment and a bed. Besides I don't like hospitals, they're full of sick people with no smokes or beer.

Well were we to get them I would prefer to turn them into hard assets as soon as possible. Depending whats around this rural area
I'm thinking buying up a bunch of seed(by the pound) so we don't have to touch the heirloom stuff. Use the rest to flush out any weak spots in the prep area. More junk silver would always be good.

My problem is that ITALY caused the shortage by being socialist and deciding to not keep up their Med system when they joined the EU>

Americas Medical System is not much better off than Italy when you break it down per capita. Once hospitals are at capacity the purge of Boomers will begin. Does not matter if the medical system is socialized or private at that point. At capacity is at capacity.

How is the Italian healthcare system handling it?
Italy’s current national health service, known as Servizio Sanitario Nazionale (SSN), provides free universal care to patients yet remains under-funded. Investments in public healthcare make up only 6.8% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), which is lower than other countries in the European Union including France and Germany.

“The continuous cuts—to care and to research—are obviously a problem right now,” Casani says. “We were not prepared. We do not have enough doctors for the people. We do not have an organized plan for pandemics.”

With the number of coronavirus cases on the rise, the Italian health ministry has doubled the number of hospital beds in infectious disease wards. The Governor of Lombardy Attilio Fontana has requested that universities grant degrees earlier this school year in order to increase the number of nurses in Italy. Yet some health officials fear these efforts will not be enough.

“Right now in Lombardy, we do not have free beds in intensive care units,” Casani says. He added that doctors “have to make this horrible choice and decide who is going to survive and who is not going to survive…who is going to get a monitor, a respirator and the attention they need.”

    Good idea.
So far this area isn't too bad. The local store was out of pork,TP and bleach. We were able to find whatever we wanted last Sunday morning. We did not venture into B-ham or T-town. We hit the little stores that we always go to. The hardware/feed store that my uncle and I get seed from should be in good shape judging from the overall attitude of the locals here. No one is panicking but they are paying attention. Yes they bought up all the TP and bleach but say hurricane instead of Covid 19 and there would be no milk, bread or eggs. Meaning that folks are treating it like a bad storm for the most part. The big cities I mentioned? Well all bets are off.

Wow, a thousand dollars? That's a tank of gas and a trip to the grocery store for the week with enough change left over for a down-payment on the electric bill...not that impressed.
