This has got to be the biggest joke of the year!!!! and so Bloody frustrating. Thousands of blank passports worth £2.5million on the black market were stolen from a van after the driver stopped to buy a chocolate bar, it emerged last night. Security experts warned the theft of the 3,000 passports and visas, which were destined for British embassies abroad, had handed a 'real coup' to terrorists, illegal immigrants and fraudsters. The Foreign Office, which was in charge of the delivery, admitted it was the latest in a string of serious security breaches by the Government. The documents were being transported in a non-armoured white Citroen van from Oldham in Greater Manchester, to London when the thieves struck. Passports sent within the UK are normally transported in armoured vehicles, with drivers banned from making unauthorised stops. But the Foreign Office said it had never used armoured vehicles to carry documents intended for foreign destinations as they were inflexible and expensive. It now faces demands for a full inquiry into the procedure. The driver stopped for his chocolate just minutes into the trip to RAF Northolt on Monday morning. A raider jumped into the vehicle and a second delivery man in the passenger seat was attacked. The offenders sped off with the vehicle. Police said the haul has a criminal value of £2.5million. Conservative MP Patrick Mercer, who has advised Gordon Brown on national security, said the best case scenario was that the documents would be used for identity fraud. (another MP with his head in the clouds) But he warned that if they fell into the hands of terrorists and other international criminals, they would yield a host of technological secrets and allow fraudsters to produce their own versions. Mr Mercer told the Daily Mail: 'We have handed a real coup to the terrorists. They must be laughing themselves silly over this.' (drinks on them then eh?) A spokesman for the Foreign office said its non-armoured security vans had been used for 15 years 'without incident'. The hijacked van had extra locks fitted but they were rendered useless as the robbers simply took advantage of the unlocked doors, with the keys inside the vehicle...WTF can you believe that sentance! A spokesman for 3M Security Printing & Systems, the private firm contracted to transport the passports, said there were no personal details on the stolen documents. 'Both the passports and visa documents contain security features to prevent misuse and the Home Office has taken steps to stop use of the documents,' the spokesman added. The Identity and Passport Service said its hi-tech embedded chip security features made the passports 'unusable'. This is the BIGGEST LIE ever, where these chips have no information on them already, they can now have ANY information PUT ON THEM that is needed, we are being led to believe, that this wasnt a planed robbery, these hijackers and possibly one or more other people who knew of the vehicles movements had planned this attack, knew where it would stop and at what time!!!.....this you can be 100% sure of! Geez! As bad as the Bureau of Vital statistics here in Phoenix..... They had the storage room doors open, and boxes of pre-stamped and signed birth and death certificates disappeared....hundreds to thousands of ready to be filled in documents....No one really knows how many! The news crew walked in and picked up handfuls and walked out, to show how good state security was! So, what did the state do? Moved their office further south, into the heart of downtown! The same people work there that do NOT speak english, and the same manager as before... Guess what,..... the news media was reprimanded for showing how easy it was to walk out with the documents.... The security? Same as it was.....open doors and cases of pre-signed and stamped documents available for the taking, right next to the toilet doors! I love the ignorance of public officials!
And that is what is going to be their downfall, and it only proves that our goobermint only wants more power to screw with its citizens instead of going after the true threats that these post 9/11 laws were enacted for. Those stolen passports are nothing but a free pass to anywhere on this planet and they will end up in the hands of a real terrorist group.
