My daughter was on the desktop sunday night , she claims the desktop background changed and it was like someone or something took over,, after spending a monday screwing with it and running a full recovery ( rediscovering long-lost passwords and reinstalling all my applicarions)I finally got it back up,. but felt the intrusion was due to me allowing our norton protection to expire.. so i went to symantec to buy the latest whiz bang protection norton "all in one" 360. Spent another day( Tuesday) to find out 360 turns off your network adapters every chance it gets, and shuts down the internet access from the desktop only. Wi fi connections work fine. I'm so f'in p'od and frustrated I'm ready to take a life....If i run my router configuration disk it reconfigures the desk top to work with the network again. Live update fails too, online support doesn't work because the adapter is disabled. Checking online through the wifi, this is a known issue...and the patch is also iffy"BAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!".
I've been Norton free for several years now..... In fact for the last 3 years or so, I don't use any antivirus at all and I've had no problems, but I'm VERY careful, and I don't have an "always on" internet connection.
I have been using System Mechanic for the past two years, ever since Norton started blocking websites that contained firearms related stuff.
I've been norton free for at least ten years. Brothers and sisters, it feels GOOD listening to all those that ignored me when I told them to go elsewhere.
Norton is "Bad Juju"! We had it at work, and got hit with a major virus. Had to decontaminate every PC individually. What a PITA! I had it on my first home PC too, and didn't like it. McAffee is better, but a resource hog.
Here at work we have Trend Micro - seems a very robust package. A PC-savvy co-worker has it on his home system too, and recommends it.
