All sighting systems have advantages and disadvantages.
Iron - sturdy, never runs out of batteries, no reticle to break, but for some of us, they get fuzzy.
Scope - add weight to rifle, don't take kindly to being dropped, almost as fast as iron if user mounts rifle to shoulder with both eyes open.
Reddot - smaller and lighter than scope, unlimited eye relief, main disadvantage seems to be the batteries.

What do you prefer, what uses, and for the poll, if you had to go grab something NOW, what would it have on top of it.

Oh Ghost, you should have used reflex sights instead of red dot as I can't stand a "red dot" site. By the way, the Trijicon Reflex II isn't red and it doesn't use batteries! So there!!!

Well, if I had to go grab a gun right now it would probably be my shotgun which just has the bead or else my .357 that has iron sights (want to get the grips that have the laser sight built in) but for now its just iron sights, all my rifles though have scopes.

I have a Kobra Red-Dot on top of my Evil Black Romy right now, mainly because it is the one of the two that I have with a side rail:) I need to buy some and install it on a 74:D

got a Trijicon Reflex ll on my M-forgery, a mil-dot leupold on my model 10 savage tactical rifle, a springfield mil-dot on my FedOrd M14, and a hodge-podge on my hunting rifles, mostly leupold.
The Trijicon is fun and fast, parallax free so if the dot is on it, so is the bullet, no matter where you're ducking.

I have a EoTech 552 on my AR, and I love it. Loooooooong battery life (like 10k hours) and very tough, compatible with NV. Would love a Trijicon.

On my other AR I have a 10X tactical scope.

On my $7k Uzi I have a cheap red dot.

On my S&W M41 that I used to shoot Bullseye with I have a red dot.

I stand corrected. Or sit corrected, as the case may be. The three groups were more form and function than technically correct. I loosely group tube and tubeless non magnification sighting devices together.

Got my Trij mounted on my L1A1, shoots well. I have a Brit friend here visiting and he shot it the other day, found it to be a interesting sight to shoot through. He still wants to get a SUIT sight for me though!

I have iron sights on the majority of my firearms. As the eyes get older it is getting harder to use the old iron sights so I am slowly switching over to the other sighting systems.

I swing both ways - well, y'all know what I mean! Some of my guns have irons, some are scoped. I've been trying a Red Dot on a couple guns, to see how it works. Pretty good on the smaller carbines!
On my 'plinkers', I like lower powered scopes, a straight 6X or a 3x-9x. A couple target rifles have high-powered scopes that I can swap with their aperture sights.
In the last several years, I have become a True Believer in peep sights! All my most accurate .22 rifles wear peeps, and of course the CETME.
I'll soon be getting the Sight-TECH peep sight for my Yugo SKS.
My 48-year-old eyes love the peeps! [beer]

When I'm shooting sub-inch groups at 100 yards with my BSA Mk.II Internatonal Martini, using the P-H peep sight - all is right with the world! 8)

Then I put on the 4.5-14X40AO and really make the wee holes . . .
