When did a noose become racist?

I must have missed a political correctness meeting or something, because twice this week I've heard (on the news) hangman's nooses referred to as racist symbols against blacks.

Did I miss out on the history class where only blacks were hung or what?

The last story I saw was from a University in Maryland where they found a little 3 inch, frayed loop of rope in a tree, 12 feet up. It looked to me like someone was trying to climb in a window and their rope broke, but they are calling it a "hate crime" and giving counseling to the black students who must now begin the "healing process"...... WTF have these over-sensitive little sissies brought us to?

Yes, Blackjack. ONLY blacks were EVER hung in ALL of history. I'm shocked you did not know that!

: sarcasm check - passed :

Our society at large absolutely disgusts me these days.

Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

Here's a good one involving a whip:

When I worked at the Postal Sevice in the St Paul/Mpls area a supervisor was visiting an outer suburb station and the union steward for that station made handmade whips and sold them. He of course tried to sell the visiting supervisor a whip. The supervisor step out of the stewards work area into the aisle and flicked the whip a couple of times to make it snap crisply in the air.

A minority letter carrier (his work station was close by) filed and won a 30,000 dollar EEO complaint against the postal service stating he felt harrassed by the supervisor and that the whip was snapped in the air to intimidate and humiliate him.

The postal service had an outside non-govt contracted review board that frequently gave out huge awards for questionable EEO charges. So the rule of thumb was to settle as quickly as possible since the award would be tripled at the next step.

There were legitmate cases. I saw some issues that needed to be addressed seriously...but the wacky fringe, out to make a buck cases did not help the serious EEO charges.

I'm sure others have stories.

A noose, in and of itself, is not racist. If you insert a Negro, Indian, Mexican, Chinese, or basically anyone but a white person's neck into it, it is racist. White people are excluded from racism because we are white and if white people were allowed to complain about racism, there would be nobody left to pay reparations to the down-trodden poor souls that were the victims.

The object in and of itself matters not at all. The "Offended Party" grasps ANY excuse to further their cause of 'Becoming a Victim', and therefore earnig their ticket to ride the gravy train, funded by our tax dollars. Our society is truly absurd.

Every day, there is a new article in the papers somewhere about nooses being found. What's the BFD here? We've got wars going on in every corner of the globe, terrorists hiding behind every Bush (pun intended), the greatest country in the history of man being destroyed and turned from a republic to a monarchy, people living in outer-space, and the bif news is that someone found a knot tied in a piece of rope? Did they consider that it might well be a symbol of our rebellion rather than a racist thing? I can think of a few thousand politicians that need a noose.

How to make a noose.

The noose is a knot, normally made from a small-diameter rope, that is often used by campers and hunters to catch small game. The noose has also traditionally been known as a Suicide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Chatterton.jpg" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/54/Chatterton.jpg/230px-Chatterton.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/5/54/Chatterton.jpg/230px-Chatterton.jpg method; however the actual knot associated with this is the Hangman's knot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Hangmans_Noose_Howto.jpg" class="image"><img alt="Hangmans Noose Howto.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/37/Hangmans_Noose_Howto.jpg/197px-Hangmans_Noose_Howto.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/3/37/Hangmans_Noose_Howto.jpg/197px-Hangmans_Noose_Howto.jpg, which is also known as the "hangman's noose".
Similar knots include the Running bowline - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Running_bowline.jpg" class="image"><img alt="Running bowline.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d0/Running_bowline.jpg/250px-Running_bowline.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/d/d0/Running_bowline.jpg/250px-Running_bowline.jpg, the Tarbuck knot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:TarbuckKnot.JPG" class="image"><img alt="TarbuckKnot.JPG" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b7/TarbuckKnot.JPG/300px-TarbuckKnot.JPG"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/b/b7/TarbuckKnot.JPG/300px-TarbuckKnot.JPG and the Slip knot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Running_bowline.jpg" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d0/Running_bowline.jpg/220px-Running_bowline.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/d/d0/Running_bowline.jpg/220px-Running_bowline.jpg.

I think we should adopt the Hangman's knot as the symbol of our resistance.

Early last week at my homesteading forum, someone posted a story about some joker hanging a "witch" in effigy in preparations for Halloween. It is, apparently, being thought of as a "hate crime" - and the folks at the forum couldn't see why. Luckily, what started out as a very mild other-than-Christian bashing (on the forum) turned into an honest request for info and answers given about paganism and Halloween, good exchange of ideas and such. The moderator closed the thread, citing that the topic was too volatile and we were sniping (which was hilarious since, for once, no one was!!!)

Now, I don't think the idiot who strung up the witch figure was actually commiting a hate crime against pagans. Rather, I think he/she/them was simply trying to be "cute" and cash in on the media's spotlight on nooses. However, if the govt is going to be ignorant enough to continue holding every little twitch and twiddle as a direct affront to black folks (I ain't hyphenated as a Scots/Native American/American! and most of them didn't come from Africa!) and classify such as hate crimes, then whoever hung the "witch" ought to be held to the same standards.

Tit for tat, as my granny would say.

Can the rampant idiocy end now, please? [own2]

No. Not as long as the namby-pamby whimperers can get a spot on the stage and strike a chord on emotions. One might hope for a real catastrophe that will restore reality.

Although I have a healthy distrust for the liberal media, from what I have read the noose was intended to send a message. Would the noose have been used had the targets been good old white boys? Maybe yes but probably no. When someone acts to incite a riot and a riot then occurs, the inciter is as responsible as the rioters. Just an opinion from a good old northern girl.

food for thought... over time and through out history more whites have ever been held in slavery either by other whites or by Muslims or by tada! AFRICANS! thats right north africans held more white Europeans and Americans then ever held by the south. heck we fought a war over it "from the halls of montezuma to the shores of Tripoli" we the US paid tribute so are sailors would go unmolested. well one day we said "enough!" (i don't think we had the money) and fought back... also churches up and down the New England coast would raise money to pay the ransom of captured sailors wheres my money i want an offical appoligy from someone does this mean i could get more college aid? does this mean i need counsoling after seeing the scull and cross bones, sorry seacowboy (sorry for the font change thing too i don't know what i did)
