    another opinion piece I guess....

<-- so that after pupils are thus schooled they will be incapable throughout the rest of their lives of thinking or acting otherwise than as their school masters would have wished … The social psychologist of the future will have a number of classes of school children on whom they will try different methods of producing an unshakable conviction that snow is black. When the technique has been perfected, every government that has been in charge of education for more than one generation will be able to control its subjects securely without the need of armies or policemen.” —–Bertrand Russell quoting Johann Gottlieb Fichte

Sounds like what Calvin Coolidge proposed/wanted too, a permanent underclass to cater to the permanent over class.

Think what you will; but, there's another side to the argument of everybody holding on fast to the same social values (Like, say, The Ten Commandments). The way I see things: Fichte and Russell were entirely correct; and this sort of social discipline (or the complete lack thereof) is, in fact, one of the principal destabilizing influences used against the maintenance of law-abiding western civilization, today. Education, therefore, is not always a bad thing.

The problem lies in what that education should contain. An extreme case is the MS in Underwater Basket Weaving staffing a garbage truck without the least comprehension of civics or economics.

No one said education, gun, cars, pizza or anything else is "a bad thing". It is the ends that it is put to that make the USE good or bad. Education should be taught so that the people can and WILL think for themselves, not taught so they are told what to think.

Guns are just a object. The looney toon "pastor" who spent $7,000 worth of church money to win a $700 AR that he said he would destroy if he won, hurt no one. Taking a cutting torch to it helped no one. No one in the "church" needed some help that $7000 could have been used for? Obviously this loser could use an education (on finance, guns, getting his head out of his ass, etc.) instead of what he got.

Cars kill people every day. Car are used to drive into crowds (Atlantic City, Vegas, others) and yet no one seems willing to ban cars "for the children", even though they (children) seem to get killed by cars in disproportionate numbers compared to the idiots driving them. Maybe these people need to be educated on how to drive.

Pizza is a major food group, but eating pizza every day would probably be a bad idea. May have to rethink this one.

There is nothing wrong with eating pizza every day!

If you do it right, you get all 4 food groups in each yummy bite!
