Gold coin for Ron Paul

I have an interesting situation here locally.

At a local town Christmas parade in mid November,07, someone walked out of the crowd and gave one of the Ron Paul people in the parade a gold coin....( I haven't seen it, don't know the size, make, etc ) to donate to the campaign. The person that got the coin passed it on to our district co-ordinator. This was in late November.

He still has it.......even been showing it around to other people ( I haven't seen it, but I sort of avoid the guy anyway ).

So I emailed him the other day and asked about it....as in WHY haven't you sent it to the campaign ?

His reply was: "well, I contacted the campaign several months ago, and they didn't get back with me on where or how to send it.....so I have been keeping it as a campaign tool...do you have any suggestions on how to get it to them ? "

I fired back an email that said :

I'd buy the coin at spot, which is more than the campaign would get, and make a check out to the campaign and he could simply send that if he can't figure out some way to send the coin.

His reply back was "well, I feel it was supposed to go to Ron Paul, and I was going to give it to him in person like you did that silver coin ( which was MINE to give, the gold ISN'T 'his' to 'give' ) but I couldn't go to the last closest rally, and I will contact the campaign again for instructions"

    I emailed this back:

So you've held this coin for 3 months, and nobody at the campaign will tell you how to send it ?

Simple.....box it up.......send it registered mail to the address for contributions in Plano, Texas....what's so hard about that ? Or send it directly to his congressional office in DC.

You have a fiduciary responsibility to get it to the campaign, and you're working on 3 months late....back when it could have done more good. It wasn't yours to use as campaign tool.

Doesn't say much for your leadership of the first district.....but then, neither does the glaring absence of your name on the list of contributors on the FEC website.

    Some background on the guy:

He ran for Congress here locally 2 years ago when our rep retired and about 15 people ran for the seat. He had ZERO or less, chance of winning, due to his country of origin ( not a statement of prejudice, just a statement of fact for this area ), but told another Ron Paul volunteer here recently that he already KNEW that when he ran, and the only reason he ran was so he could use any contributions to his campaign to fund his son's college tuition. How's THAT for a reason to run ?

Second thing is he has been a big cheerleader during the Ron Paul campaign, wanting "us" to be a "100,000 dollar donation district"....rah rah rah. So when this gold coin thing started bugging me, I looked up the contributors for Ron Paul on the FEC website when the figures came out the other week for the year of 07, and guess who's name is NOT on the list ?

Yeah....the head cheerleader......not one fricking penny donated.

My suspicion is he planned to simply hang on to it until things died down, and then just keep it. I don't intend to let that fly.....I haven't heard from him this week, so at week's end, I intend to send him this last email:

Having heard nothing back in response from you this week on the forwarding of the coin to the Ron Paul campaign, I hereby request you either send me, or post on the meetup group (with or without comment is fine) proof in the form of a registered mail receipt with insurance in the amount of the Federal Reserve Note value of the coin, listing the coin as contents, and an address of the campaign. I will say no more about this if you do that.

Failure to respond this email and/or provide proof, and I will be contacting the State Co-ordinator, and/or the national campaign, and/or the district attorney's office.

I will also post my complaint on the meet-up group email, along with copies of my emails to you and your responses.

You can easily resolve this by simply DOING WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE MONTHS AGO, and sending the contribution on to the campaign, which, as I have pointed out, you had a fiduciary responsibility to do AT THE TIME YOU TOOK POSSESSION OF THE CONTRIBUTION. It was not "your" coin to use as a campaign tool or anything else....it was a contribution to the Ron Paul campaign and should have been sent to the campaign immediately.

I can assure you, I do NOT plan to let this slide.

What do ya'll think of the whole deal ?

I know a few like him.
I wish I didn't because those types get under my skin more than is really even warranted. I tend to take it personally even when I'm not directly involved.

    Kill him?

    or, better yet:

Have G-Khan create a web-page called www.Where's.Ron.Pauls.Gold.com and take pledges on who will help you make sure this guy never works in political action or handles money ever again.

    Keep me posted.

Does the guy's name rhyme with Mattel?

Just another thief. This guy knows the right thing to do and chooses not to do it. That is despicable and if he is this dishonest about something like this, what else is he doing?

Running for office. ;) ("He ran for Congress here locally...")

Good for you, TNA, for holding him to his duty! I hope he does what is right.

I would agree with TMH, if he is caught in this where everyone saw him recieve it and he is even bragging about it, how much has he gotten in contributions for the campaign in cash that everyone DIDNT see that never made it to the campaign? I wonder if there is any way to have it audited to find out how much more he may be stealing?

I would deffinatly contact the national campaign and be sure they know whats going on at the least.

Well.....I got an email response from him. Said he called the campaign and they told him where to send it in, but also acted like they weren't all that interested in getting it. So, he said he decided to take me up on my original offer of exchanging it for FRNs......with 2 witnesses and a tape recording....ahahahaa...

Emailed him back, said fine.....you pick the location and time....send me the size of the coin and I'll bring a certified check made out to the campaign in the amount of the previous US closing spot price for the amount of gold in the coin.

    We'll see how it goes.

Sounds good to me Andy. This guy should learn right off the bat that all politicians should be held accountable and that there are some things like lying and stealing that people won't get away with. Maybe if he learns it now, he'll correct it before it can become a major problem in the later years. I would like for you to post any follow-up to this. I'd be interested in knowing how it goes.
