Is there anything to learn by watching this disaster?

I for one, was caught without Gas for my gennies. Stupid but they are used in my busines and the guys that run them don't think of them as my 'out of power' lifeline. More convenience than lifeline but whatever.,

Antone out there like me? I watch these catastrophes and make notes...

Make sure one always has gas, candles, propane, or whatever in that type of situation (you never know when you will be without power). Candles are good for other things (because generators do not need to be run 24/7), or hurricane lanterns, in which case the proper type of fuel for them.

Matches, etc. (which most people just don't think about needing to light candles, lanterns, and so forth).

A good first aid kit that's up to date. You would not believe how often you think you've got everything and oops, you've used the stuff in it and not replaced it.

Food stuffs...things that don't necessarily need to be cooked or refrigerated (not necessarily great to eat but sustaining in an emergency). Which will keep indefinitely (not for years mind you but quite a long time - just remember to rotate, rotate, rotate).

I could go on but my migraine meds are definitely taken affect here and I'm about out of it for the night. Going to bed while I can't feel any pain.

Besides remembering to shoot looters? Stocking up on gas, food, water, and ammo of course. I need to check my generator and make sure it is running right. I also stocked up on gas the other day, but would like the capacity to store more safely. Lots of these things wouldn't help those that were flooded, but I don't us having anything like that happen. Not unless a meteor strikes the earth or something along that nature. Other catastrophies? Sure. I filled up some more gallon jugs last night. They are temporary storage, but it does make me feel better knowing that I have them there. I also took stock of my canned goods, and my better half is using more than she is replentishing. That's gotta stop. The hurricane did make me think, and take stock.

Dont move into places that nature intends to be underwater...mother nature WILL get her way sooner or later, and if you do be ready to be underwater not surprised when the predictable happens. Sorry but thats what stunns me, I live in the mid west and have no particular intrest in NO so have not studied it or anything but even I knew it was below water level and that this was expected for a long time with it only being a matter of when, not if, now all these folks seem to be surprised that it happened and were not in the very least prepared....it just blows my mind.

Also, you have to be able to move(BO) if you have to. I put myself through the hurricane scenario I didn't do that well.

Most of our supplies are on the ground floor and in the basement, if we got flooded quick as some say they were down on NO I would be in trouble too.

I don't think I would choose a place to live that is below sea level, though.
