RouteClearence, yep you got it mate,
"welcome to the U.K -big brother style"

There was some talk and action even, last year if i remember right that "certain councils" in the UK were employing "council-snoops" to go throu recycle bins , to make sure that only recyleable items were being used in the allocated bins!!!
This led to uproar within that particular borough as the lids from the "recycle bins were not being shut properly (by the council-snoops) thus when they should have been collected on rubbish days they were being left behind, because the lids were not completly shut!
    This is proper[BSf]

I gave up on the whole recycle thing shortly after it started .

We had a community provided bin to put paper , plastic and glass items in and we made an effort to "do our part" untill a few instance where they refused to pick it up .

Once after taking it to the curb I grabbed up the locl free newspapers we get and tossed them in the bin on the top as we hardly ever read them .

The next morning I happened to be up and saw the guys about to drive off without getting the recycle bin and went to the porch to remind them it was there . When I said "hey what about the recycle bin" I got the answer of "It has WET paper on top " the free papers I had tossed in last night . It had rained overnight and the Bin didn't come with a lid .

I never knew only dry paper could be recycled ?

Then I once made the terrible mistake of picking up a small limb that had broken off the end of a branch and broken it into tiny pieces no bigger than a pencil and tossing it on the top .

That time they refused because I had "Yard waste" in the bin despite it being only the equivilent of perhaps 6-10 pencils .

I gave up and it all goes in the trash cans now .

Recycling is BIG here. We used to have to sort into different open boxes (glass/metal/paper). Now, we can toss all of our recyclables into one large can, as they now have assembly line workers that sort our recycled items.

Better yet, leave the bins on your property, then when the snoops come 'round, shoot the trespassers. Oops, forgot. There are no guns in the UK. Well, how 'bout a cricket bat diligently applied 'pon the noggins?

There is an episode of Penn & Teller's Showtime series "BS" proving just how much more recycling cost than saving money, let alone the envoirnment. It's is nothing but an excuse for TPTB to gain more power.

'pon the noggins", hahahahaha i aint heard that for "donkeys years"...like it !!

Yep true we are NOT allowed to DEFEND oursleves in this country, maybe we could swear at them....nah that may even cause them distress hahah.

There is a couple of articles (will get it for you) it will make you laugh.

Where should the Refuse Operatives take my rubbish from?
For residents who receive a black sacks collection the Refuse Operatives (dustmen) are instructed to pick up household rubbish from your property providing they can access it.

For residents who are on the wheeled bin collection service, the wheeled bins must be presented for collection at the front boundary of your property or an agreed collection point by 7.30am on the day of collection.

If your think you have had a missed collection please contact us on 01253 477 477 to report this.

A council refused to collect rubbish from a 95-year-old war veteran who is nearly blind - because he put a ketchup bottle in the wrong bin.

Lenny Woodward, a former Desert Rat who has lived in the same house for 58 years, was confused by a new regime of fortnightly collections and rigid recycling rules.
Residents have a blue wheelie bin for cans and cardboard, a green box for glass and a black bin for other waste.
Mr Woodward made the mistake of putting the ketchup bottle and a coffee jar in the blue bin when they should have gone in the green box.

When binmen inspected the blue bin, they refused to empty it and attached a tag to it warning him not to break the rules again.
And when his daughter rang Norwich City Council to explain that he was baffled by the new regime, she was told that "rules have to be obeyed".

And another: Wheeled bins need to be left at the curtilage of your property on your collection day by 6.00am so that the refuse collection crews can gain access to it.
    Facing the right way hahahahahaha[BSf]

In California, recycling is now mandatory, but there is no penalty on the books for violators. in other words, they can bitch all they like about following the rules ,but can't do anything to you if you don't.

In our State office buildings here in Florida, we have been putting our white paper into under-desk recycle bins for the last few years - then empty them into bigger recycle-only bins in the hallways later.
We recently caught the new cleaning crew dumping the recycle bins into the big dumpster with the other trash.
I also seldom see the 'recycle' trucks picking up the green 'recycle' bins from people's yards. Makes me think the whole program has been scrapped.

    So much for 'Going Green'......

I don't understand all of the hullabaloo. In our area, recycling is HUGE - not mandatory, just what you do. It doesn't seem to be such a big deal in other parts of the same state.

If the garbage guys aren't doing their part, it doesn't seem like there's any reason for the office workers to be doing their part. That's too bad.

    Recycling isn't that difficult.
