Just picked up my new 590 and trying to figure out what would be a good range light for use. I see that 200 lumens on a lot of models- is that enough for home defense or something stronger needed?

Just my 2 cents I bought a mag-light xl200 it has 120 lumen or so and the damn things is blinding at 10yrds and beynd plus it's only $45 its what I have for my home defense. Plus the light has a couple of cool features on it.

Been using a predator light recently. It is a green output diode lite and find it serves very well to retain night vision when you turn it off. Not as good as red but gives better range for scanning and acquisition. Of course the first muzzle flash takes care of most of your night vision anyway.

Just a NOTE here: If you are having significant Muzzle Flash, from Cartridges, at ranges inside 50 Yds, you have way to much Powder in your Ammunition, or you are using to slow of burning Powder, for the barrel length of your weapon. This can be corrected, by either lowering your Powder Volume or Weight, or using a faster Burning Powder. The Muzzle Flash is caused by excess Powder burning while being blown out the end of the barrel. Dropping the amount of Powder will NOT in anyway drop the Velocity, or Muzzle Energy of the Cartridge, in that any powder still burning once the projectile leaves the Barrel, contributes nothing to the Velocity or Muzzle Energy. This is where, tuning the Cartridge, to the Weapon, provides significant advantages. ..... YMMV....
