Yep, a Wilson. I got some good advice on the 1911 Forum and I'll try fixing it tomorrow.

Great let me know how it goes, there are two types of wilsons for the 80 and 70 series.

    I didn't know that and mine doesn't say it's for series 80.

ETA: I checked at Brownell's and the product description says the GS I bought is for either 70 or 80 series. I was scared there for a minute!

But everyone says that the GS can have noeffect on trigger pull so we'll see what's going on.

I took everything apart and put it back together, and discovered a huge problem with the firing pin - once in it stayed in and I had a hell of a time getting it out! Turns out it had a burr on it so I sanded that down and now it works like it should. But after reassembly the trigger pull was still stiff so I put the stock GS back in and right away had the 4# pull back. So I'd guess the new GS is interfering with the trigger bow somehow and I'll work on figuring that out later - gotta go to the gym.

I filed some on the new GS and tried it - about the third time in the trigger pull suddenly dropped to 5#. One more time I filed on it and then the trigger pull was 4#, perfect. Now to shoot this thing!

I went out and shot about 50 rounds, and the slide kept locking back I'd say about 50% of the time. So now I have to fit the slide stop - as soon as someone tells me what to do. Ha. I post these questions on 1911 Forums and so far have gotten excellent advice there, but if anyone here knows what to do let me know!

Here's what I did to fix it:

    Removed slide
    Removed barrel from slide
    Install slide with slide stop
Put in loaded mag and look at slide stop and see if it's hitting the rounds as they came up (they were)
    Filed slide stop and repeated

The whole job took about 20 minutes tops and I think it's fixed. Will try it out again tomorrow and take the file with me!

Yea that should do it, you might check out the fit tension of the slides squeeze on the rails too get some "Gunslick" it will polish the rails and trigger components to a silky slick smooth surface.

Dunno if the step from knife smith to gunsmith is a step up or sideways. Good deal, either way. Make sure we know how well it works, then shoot hell out of it to ensure reliability.

I know QS - I was going to buy a XDM-45 next but now have changed to a series 70 Colt or something like that so I can work on it!

Thanks ghrit, will shoot it up!

Went and shot it again today and it was much better but it still locked back 3 or 4 times so I'll file on the SS a bit more. :)
