"ADAK Camping Trailer" is an OxyMoron.... If you have ever been to Adak Island, you would know, NO ONE EVER "Camps" on Adak Island....[lolol]

Well, you see...they didn't ask me when they named it....[dunno] And of course, unless it floats, why name it after an island at all?;).....

Although it is a little KNOWN Fact, that the NSA, STILL Has a Installation on Adak Island, that is a well protected, and defended, Security Zone..... One of those places, that if you breach the Security Fence, they send out the Security Patrol, with Live Ammo, and shoot you DEAD, No Questions ASKED, or Answered......

The installation has it's own Airstrip, and is completely independent, from the ExNavy Base, that was given to the Aleut Native Corp. for $1US.... In really BAD Wx, they do land some of their Supply & Support Jets, at the ExNavy Base, but ONLY at Night, and the whole thing is done, on the Far side of the Base, with Total ARMED Security, around, until the Planes take off, again....

The Base Perimeter is protected with Ground Vibration Sensors, Night Vision Video, and IR Sensors.... It is similar to Area 51 in that Respect, on Steroids.....

Loving the Unimog (Zetros?) :) I have a thing for these kinds of trucks. If you have a reasonably sized 4x4, like a Land Rover or Grand Cherokee or similar you can be quite comfortable in one of those, and have a VERY capable vehicle. But, for the sake of showing up cool vehicles, I'd get a Bremach!

I say an RV. Years back that was my plan to get the family to the property I had in CO. We really enjoyed camping so I bought a 4 season 30' bumper pull. It was always kept ready to go at a moments notice with the exception of fresh food and filling the water tanks. Back then I pulled it with one of my welding trucks so I carried tools , power, ect. The ex pulled a 20' car hauler loaded with the ATV's, extra fuel and stuff I didn't want in the RV. In a SHTF taking the ATV's would be nice, but would've depended on actual events/timeline. A bumper pull is nice because you have the truck bed for cargo, but doesn't pull as nice as a 5th wheel. With the 5th wheel you lose most of your cargo area in the truck. Most 5th wheels have higher ground clearance. I built a custom lift kit for the bumper pull that I had then. If there is any way possible get a diesel 4x pick up as your truck. Much better pulling power and better mpg over most gassers when pulling a heavy load as a rule. Get something no newer than '03 to be sure you can burn "red"fuel. My current 1 ton Dodge gets 20mpg and tips the scale right at 20k fully loaded. Its stock with the exception of a performance chip, air bags on the springs and taller tires. Nowadays the Nurse and I have a 5th wheel that carries our ATV's in the back. The garage is nice as it offers a place to also store other bulk items. JMT's

We have had a pop-up trailer, a "camping trailer", a converted school bus, a high end diesel pusher MH and finally found we were happy with a well cared for vintage 34' gasoline powered MH/RV (with the Jeep as a pull along). The ability to just pull over and have everything ready for a meal or sleep is a great thing and I don't worry as much about dings and scratches and I did with the pusher.

Now that it is just me, I am thinking of going with one of the smaller more fuel efficient models, but they tend to be underpowered when pulling a vehicle...even a fairly lightweight one like the Wrangler. The 454 drinks some gas, but it will pull a lot of weight up hills.
