A couple of Youtube clips on how to make a simple long burning fire using a Swedish Torch/Stove. The first clip is making a torch stove by creating a virtical bundle. Deadwood about wrist thick can be cut to uniform lengths with a folding pruning saw. This method is a good backpacking technique. Start about a minute into the clip. stihl is good quality, but overpriced. My Poulan Pro does good enough. An I keep several new sharp chains & a good chain sharpener =)
Stihl is the Alaskan Loggers, Saw of choice.... I still have my 031AV that I bought 40 years ago. Still runs like a Top, and with a new chain, can take down any tree I need. Momma, uses her 018 to limb and brush. Nothing beats a Stihl in the woods... ..... YMMV....
Down here Stihl is probably most popular now, but the Husqvarna 480CD I started using clearing our homesite 30 years ago is still my favorite...and it will still run the big bar through old dead oak like a knife through warm butter... Again...YMMV
Great! I'm dying to try it out. Seems to me that if you weren't able to get all the wood an even length you could even out one end and bury the uneven end. Any thoughts?
