So I'm nearly convinced that there is going to be some sort of assault weapons ban in the near future.

I was very young and didn't have anything they could ban for the last assault weapons ban so I wanted to know what would happen.

Would we have to turn in our guns or would I be grandfathered in. I don't relay get how this works. I'm not giving up my gun at least not for free that for sure. They better cough up $700 -800 bucks for it and the rest of my guns wouldn't be affected.

I would be stuck with 500 rounds of .308 and nothing to feed them to.

I don't see any type of ban happening until the antigun libs can muster a majority in both houses of the Congress and the Senate. Right now they lack the votes for any type of weapons ban, the main reason President Obama backed off on his promise to reinstate the 1994 AWB which expired in 2004.

As for not "grandfathering" the ones already owned, that would be highly unlikely due to the great numbers which are owned as it is. The 1994 AWB was one of the main reasons for the Republican takeover back in '94.

In no way am I implying that we have nothing to worry about, for our RKBA has to be watched just a vigilantly as the rest of our freedoms, which TPTB are trying their best to covertly take from all of us, but right now the 2nd Admendment is a hot potato that very few politicians are willing to touch without fear of losing a lot of votes to stay in office, but if the political winds change in their favor, then yes a ban would be passed.

Sufffice to say, I do not see anything happening on the national level till the elections next year if the anti's can gain the required seats.

The worst thing about such a ban happening now is they would NOT include the 'Grandfather Clause' that allowed the last one to expire after ten years - they learned their lesson on that! Also they would extend the numbers and types of guns covered.

We MUST keep after our Congress Critters to NOT allow any such ban to be made law! Let them know their cushy jobs depend on following the will of the people!!

they banned the import manufacture and purchase of new ones. If you've got one in the closet keep it. Other country's have done a "turn in your guns day" thing :Australia and britain, don't think that'd get past the evening news report update stage here. We're watching, ready, and daring those idiots to just tryit[tongue]...[gun]taser1[patr][sawgunner][axe]

Here's how the ban worked in The P3OPL3S R3PUBLIK of KALIFORNIA.

If you own an assault weapon as defined under the Roberti-Roos Assault weapon ban you:

    1. Register the weapon with the state by having the weapon inspected and registered at a local police or sheriff's station

    2. If the weapon is used at a range or other legal shooting area, proof of registration is required and any PO can demand the paper work to prove legality.

    3. The weapon cannot be passed down if you die, your son or daughter cannot inherit the weapon, you are required to surrender the weapon to LE

    4. If you did NOT RE REGISTER your weapon, you are now a felon.

It is estimated that at least 2,000,000 law abiding citizens are now felons because they have refused to "Reregister" their weapons.

You may say, "Ah that's them Cali wackos, that isnt here." Keep this in mind, this state is the test bed for national policy.

    Prepare and survive.

seesaw [loco] Well, I appreciate the info about what managed to get legislated in PRK, its always good to be aware of what goes on about you, but .... there are few other States that would allow the same thing to happen. How long has the PRK law been in effect? Since it was enacted have you or anyone else seen similiar legislation introduced in any other State? I think the only States that might try would be Illinois, New York, and Maryland. To Support my position you only need to look at how quick other states tailored legislation on CCW after the NRA and the State of Florida passed the first commonsense must issue CCW law. At least 36 other States or more now have such legislation. PRK, Illinois, NY, and Maryland are not among them. It depends on the demographics and political leanings of the Sheeple in that State. Please continue to keep us informed of the off kilter anti freedom and liberty laws passed out your way, but don't for a new york minute think every other state is going to quickly follow suit. JMHO of course [flag]

73AussieFordGuy, I am going to give you the same advice I give everyone that lives in Kalifornia.

Move. Move to another state, it is a lost cause.

So true and then the buying frenzyyyy will blow up again, so better get stuff now I think manufactures geared up and produced prices are dropping. I would get mags ammo and rifles you kow will get banned. No one is going to bann a 1911 so skip it even if you want one unless at a good price in that case let me know...[lolol]... They have made some bills that would remove "grandfathering" but I dont see it happening wayyyyyyyyyyyy to man guns. Look at the issue with passports and this cash for clunkers. To many people not enough gov workers to handle the paper work...
