The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has added questions to a form that must be filled out by over-the-counter gun buyers. They want to know whether the buyer is Hispanic or non-Hispanic, and they also ask another race question that is confusing for buyers. Why is the government doing this?

What you see (or hear) is not always what you get when it comes to our government and the sneaky way they do business. Click here to learn the real reason behind a government decision to add questions about race to a form filled out by gun buyers.

Probably for the same reason doctors offices are now wanting to know your race and your heritage background. I am unsure of why but the Drs said it was because if you went to a neighboring sate and got into an accident some heritages respond better to different treatments. Sounded like BS to me.

In regards to the Hispanic vs. non-Hispanic could be that some Hispanics think of themselves as white.

Who knows why the gov't wants something, but WHY would they need to know the breakdown of Whites/non-whites/hispanics/non-hispanics buying guns? Well I thought anything dealing with the BATF and filling out gun forms would have gone into the gun forum, that is why I put it there.

Simple answer is if you are anti-gun, you would want to know the demographics of who HAS guns. You would want to know what your voters's values are, so you know how better to appease the masses, and what line to spout. It would be foolish to attempt gun control measures, when everyone in the room is packing iron. Any info they can gather helps them position themselves better to the majority of voters.
