Home and Farm Preservation - 1918 2015-08-30

Preserving the harvest as done in 1918

Home canning can save all those beans, tomato's, cabbage, and berries. It is easily accomplished in the home with proper instructions and good guide book. This book is more of a reference text for those that have experience in canning.

There is a thread on how to make vinegar from fruit thats readily available to you at home. If interested in making your own skip to page 117..

As to the preservation methods, use great CAUTION. Check the instructions against modern text like the Ball Blue Book. Any failure in ones techniques can result in the death of a loved one..

I love old books............ I know things have changed over the years but this book still has valuable information that does not involve laboratory access to accomplish what you would need in a self sufficient arena or situation. Very nice post and bring more :)

Very well done, has the disadvantage of being 100 years old, dated and some information is now known to be dangerous. On the good side everything shown can be done in an after shtf situation and without electricity.
Well worth reading for the vinegar section and the different salting and drying sections

I am very impressed with the amount of information. Thank you very much. Old-fashioned is always best.
