10/22 action does not want to work

I received an old Ruger 10/22 receiver and had wanted to do a build with it. I have replaced the spring and charging handle to a new one, has the same factory bold a new barrel and BX -22 trigger and last a Magpul MOS -22.

When I place the receiver in the stock and pull the charging handle to the rear it hangs up very slowly slides forward I have to put pressure on it to make the bolt fully close.

The recovery is an old only six numbers for the serial number. I do notice that they bolt does close on its own when I take the receiver and start pulling it out of the stock. I know it's not the stocks fault as I have bought two of them and both have this problem.

Any advice? Did have a video of the action hanging up. Its like the stock has to much pressure on the receiver. I have attempted to fire it and get a semi bolt action rifle.

You are going to need to work out where the stock is impinging on the bolt and see if you can remove some material so it doesn’t. I would probably start with the factory stock and the replacement side by side to see if you can see where the main differences are. As the bolt is still able to move you are talking about sanding off a little material not a great deal at all.

 

Sounds like a job for dremal go brrrr.

 

Get one of those chalk pens. You can either coat the stock or coat the action. Cycle the action a bunch of times and find out where the chalk disappears .. likely your contact/drag point.

 

Since the bolt itself is completely contained within the receiver, and it moves freely when removed from the stock it seems to make sense that the new charging handle is dragging on the stock when installed. Check the clearance of the new aftermarket charging handle to the stock. Pictures would help. There are a lot of aftermarket parts available for the 10/22.

 

Double check the barrel tightness. Make sure the two set screws are tight. A buddy had one doing that and we found that when the stock hold down screw was tightened the barrel moved a bit and the bolt wouldn't close fully.

 

@Blackgrub0331 I think you meant the MOE X22. You also said you have a 'new' barrel. I have the Hunter X22 and it came with two (2) different types of 'bushings' (not really a bushing, it's a piece that lays in the stock for the barrel but cannot think of what the actual name is) for a bull or pencil/normal barrel. Both have adjustable screws. Now, I would bet this is what is causing your bolt to hang up. Have a look before cutting your stock, maybe try the other one. The adjustment screws are really more to harmonize your barrel if I remember correctly but don't quote me on that, look it up. I played with the screw, couldn't find any difference and set mine snug and called it good enough. Those Magpul stocks really are excellent so have a hard look before cutting any material away. I will bet it is something not sitting properly, like your barrel. Best of luck and let us know because this is how we ALL can experience from each other's actions.
