First day of hurricane season and I'm getting ready. Two big dead long leaf pines that had their tap roots broken during Hurricane Florence had to come down. Both fell exactly where I wanted, although one had ideas of its own and tried to fall the wrong way. Good crew. As soon as the saw started binding the bobcat started pulling the rope so the tree had no choice but to fall the way it was notched. Both were so rotten they exploded into pieces when they hit the ground. My Purple Martin's are happy. Next year they'll have second house in the cleared area where these trees were.
And that’s why I have no pines on my property...pine borers, lightning strikes, annual dead branches...only good thing was the eagles loved to use the last one as a perch.
After my experience with Hurricane Michael in 2018 knocking my power out for four days, I've added something to my preps. My two 32,000mha power bricks kept my smartphones charged those four days, with heavy online use. I have now added a 100ah AGM battery in a "Smart Power Battery Box", the type used for boat batteries. A small charger keeps it charged and ready to go. Should keep me in touch for weeks. I have a 22watt solar charger with USB hookup too, which can charge my power bricks and AA/AAA batteries. I stocked away more Eneloop rechargeable AA, AAA and D cells. I have a good cooler with freezer packs to keep perishible food good a few days.
Got one coming my way. Just a tropical storm but its dressed rehearsal for the real deal. So far so good.

It's been quiet for a few years, the sun is coming out of solar minimum so expect a busy hurricane, typhoon and cyclone season for the next year or 2.
