A short video on 25 edible wild plants. While it is not complete and will not replace some one in your area who knows how to forage, it does show some of the foods in your area that could be very important in a long term survival situation. Please remember that at this time many of the habitats have been made unsafe. You don't know if a deer has been in the area or a tourist and there may be bacteria etc in the water or soil.

The whole truth is that you have to learn before you forage. Queen Anne's Lace, wild carrot, is edible but its look alike Hemlock is deadly poison. Parts of the elderberry are perhaps the most effective anti viral that we know , but other parts of it are deadly. Others need to be leached in water to remove toxins or boiled or roasted. Much of the wild foods, meat included, require careful preparation and cooking.

I am 87 now but when I was 7 years old I caught rabbit fever, tularemia, by skinning a rabbit I shot. While I recovered with the aid of penicillium , if it had happened a few years earlier, I may have died. Without antibiotics the death rate is in the 5 to 15 % rate and may approach 1 % with modern care

    Tularemia

If the SHTF does occur, we will again be exposed to many dangers that can kill us as they used to do in the past. And in addition it would be a great advantage to us to know the old cures even if they are less effective than the modern drugs
