bad idea .. .. too spensive .. .. dont werk when da wind aint blowin .. .. 100 kw solar, micro-hydro, or oder is a bttr idea
iv'e seen 10 kw turbines also. trying to go off grid with all of the creature comforts . that gets spensive i know
50KW??? That would power a convenience store, or 10k square foot house. And this snippet from the net: Just because a wind turbine has a capacity rating of 1.5 megawatts, that doesn't mean it will produce that much power in practice. Wind turbines commonly produce considerably less than rated capacity, which is the maximum amount of power it could produce if it ran all the time. For example, a 1.5-megawatt wind turbine with an efficiency factor of 33 percent may produce only half a megawatt in a year — less if the wind isn't blowing reliably. Industrial scale turbines usually have capacity ratings of 2 to 3 megawatts. However, the amount of energy actually produced is reduced by efficiency and wind availability — the percentage of time a unit has enough wind to move. Read More: How Much Power Does A Wind Turbine Generate? Your money would be way better spent on solar. Even at an average 20% efficiency it still produces daily as opposed to wind. I looked at this hard several years ago and even though I am on the coast with some wind blowing almost every day, the speed wasn't there enough days to produce enough to offset the initial cost over 20 years. If you do go ahead, use permanent magnet generator even though they have a cogging effect. You get the most power per dollar. You also may want to consider multiple units because mechanical things can and will fail. A quick search turned this up: 50kw Wind Turbines | Agricultural, Light Industrial | Wind Generators
