Did anyone catch the Pilot Show on Fox... It show a Texas Fire Department pumping water on an Ammonium Nitrate Fire..... Texas, the only State dumb enough to allow pumping water on an Ammonium Nitrate Fire.... Big NoNo... The last two times this has happened in REAL LIFE, have both been in Texas... The last one was at a Fertilizer Plant which stored their Fertilizer on mounds, covered by a Tarp, and moved around with bulldozers, and next to an Old Folks home and High School... the one before that was the Texas City Disaster... in 1947....
Texas City, Texas was estimated to be about 2.7-3.2 kilotons of TNT with 581 dead and about 5,000 injured. the explosion at Halifax Nova Scotia on Dec 6th 1917 was estimated at about 2.9 kilotons of TNT with about 1,950 dead and about 9,000 injured. theoretically Texas City was larger by yield if ya use the higher estimate, however the Halifax explosion caused more deaths and injuries and severe damage to Halifax. The PEPCON disaster had a rough yield of about 1kt. The Minor Scale and Misty Picture conventional tests had an approximate yield of 4 kt each. There were no known deaths or injuries since they took place at a test site.
